Hot Take: Getting Rid Of GDKPs Was A Mistake (Part 1)

Why is it that they’re ALWAYS on a level 20-40 character though. It’s never a max level char that’s talking about how they don’t like GDKP.

I mean with how horrible anniversary/sod performed and the firing of the team that made those decisions I would say yeah long term the ban will be positive.

I think they just banned it because pressure was coming from reddit and they didn’t want more heat on blizzard.

Same reason they changed male / female into type 1 / type 2.

Now why did pressure get created? Because gold sellers realized that overtime GDKPs basically made their bots worthless as players became self-funded from payouts and nearly all of them stopped buying their gold.

Anniversary is in great shape.

Groups form quickly and the players are genuinely friendly and enjoying the game.

I keep seeing you guys saying it’s in rough shape but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Yeah it’s weird when people post on characters from a different version of the game or are underleveled.

I noticed a trend. What are you upset about?

Pointing out the irony of you complaining about someone underleveled complaining about GDKPs while posting on a character that is on a GDKP enabled server and a different version of the game.

most people consider smaller than a pserver to be a failure.

Almost 80k active raiders on anniversary. LOTS more are leveling up rn for tbc as well.

It’s alive and well

Era is DEAD

you can make your own runs

GDKP should 100% be unbanned. Banning it was a colossal mistake.

Plus, I don’t think it did anything to stop RMT? People still buy loot off others, now there’s just no big pot at the end for everyone to split.

I’m glad its kinda dead

The ban also aimed to reduce the constant cycle of new players entering, receiving gear, and leaving, which destabilized community efforts

So I can HR everything for myself and screw people over like they’re doing?
Feels morally bankrupt, though you wouldn’t know anything about morals with how much your crowd wants to squash player agency and restrict how people play. Even if the 2 server solution would work, ya’ll still fight it anyway because you’re all delusional, on the G2G take, or just not arguing in good faith.

No. The GDKP ban was a failed experiment. Nothing more.

whats your measure for pop?
because over inflated numbers from alts on wcl is a terrible example

The very best thing wow could do is ban all forms of gear buying that isn’t a BOE and ban all forms of carrying people through content for “gold”.

In my experience GDKPs have mostly been used to make some cash off old content or to gear out my alts.

Is the constant cycle of new players we’re talking about just people’s alts?
Because people take gear and bail all the time in an SR, Loot Council, and DKP environment just as much so how’s that an issue?

Our guild this fresh has lost quite a few fantastic players due to burnout, personal reasons, and more. We’re not getting any of that loot back and new players had to come in to take their place, so I don’t see the argument there.

Do you charge them gold to catch them up?

If not, then it’s not a problem.

if that was true they would not have banned it this long. if I complained this much about a game I would quit and move on

No but it works in a very similar system.
New players aren’t allowed to roll on high value gear for 3 weeks of raiding with us to curb people joining, taking a great piece and bailing.

Let’s imagine a world where the same individual joined a GDKP instead, they probably don’t have enough gold to buy anything for a few raids anyway so the system works almost the same. Only difference is they get paid and can take their gold to another run if they didn’t like ours.

So either way, they’re not getting gear immediately unless they happen to have a lot of gold in the case of GDKP. So what’s the issue there?

Another big change from this fresh vs 2019 is that on this go around most people don’t have very many alts. I had 6 in 2019 and now I have 1. My mage, which makes all the money I need to raid. Fellow guild members are in similar boats where they typically only have 1 or no alts at all. Most of which have cited the lack of GDKP (myself included) as a reason for that. Not enough loot drops in classic and I am too unlucky to win things often enough to gear out that many alts without GDKP.
Plus, why have so many alts if I have nothing to do with them? Before they generated a fair amount of gold through GDKP, which now they can’t.
