Hot Take: Getting Rid Of GDKPs Was A Mistake (Part 1)

Joining a guild isn’t the issue—I already have a GDKP guild that I enjoy. The problem is that we can’t use our preferred loot system on this server, so we simply choose not to play.

Guilds aren’t a one-size-fits-all solution, and forcing players into outdated or inefficient loot systems doesn’t make raiding better—it just makes it less appealing. If Blizzard truly wanted to improve the raiding experience, they’d offer more options, not fewer.

Vanilla WoW may have been designed with guild raiding in mind 20+ years ago, but times have changed. The content itself is far easier now, yet players still struggle—not because of difficulty, but because many simply fail basic mechanics like moving out of fire.

The idea that WoW ‘isn’t for solo players’ is outdated. Blizzard has actively introduced systems that accommodate different playstyles, including solo-friendly raid options. The reality is that the game has evolved, but many players haven’t. Whether in a guild or not, success in raids comes down to individual awareness and execution, not just being part of a structured group.
