HoT out of combat threat

Ok, so the title isn’t great. My question is, if you’re in a raid and the healer throws a HoT on the tank, while OUT of combat, THEN the tank pulls a boss/mob whatever, the tank takes damage, the hot heals him, NOW does the tank get this healing threat, or the healer?

Would prefer a source over an opinion thank you!

In your combat log the actor doing the healing will be the healer. So the healer will get the threat. If the healer is unable to get the threat because they’re in a different instance no one will get the threat. It’s still not the tank doing the healing.

for instance, when you pull ebonroc or flamegor you should not be healed because the healer will pull the threat

even with a hot

If the healer is in combat with the mob when the hot ticks, the healer will get the threat. Otherwise, no threat is given.

I believe this is correct. Same with shields. You can preHoT and preshield. Usually there is no need for this unless you are helping a mage do some kind of aoe pull.

In addition to this, please keep in mind that pulling a boss and other mobs typically also pulls you into combat. Different mobs/places have different rules when it comes to putting players into combat.

Healer gets it.

For proof, have a tank get pre-hotted then walk up to a raid boss, face pulling but nothing else, don’t hit boss. Once it hits you and the hot heals you, if will immediately turn and go for that healer.

Ebonroc and Flamegor are notorious for this exact thing causing a wipe if it decides to shadow flame the raid because of it.

Ahh okay, since the boss sends zone-wide aggro it’ll get the healer if they pre-hot, but pre shield shouldn’t cause additional aggro if cast before boss pull tho sounds like?

Correct. Shields do not cause aggro except generic buff aggro when first applied. So if you do that before entering combat, no threat.
