Mecha-Done doesn’t have anything to do with Available in Eight Colors. You want that achievement to be account wide.
So what is the point…?
To bring it in line with most meta achievements.
There are ten parts to Mecha-Done. Since it’s now account-wide, you can complete those parts on different characters - I could earn e.g. Rest in Pistons on one character, Junkyard Machinist on another one. However, most of those parts are not themselves account-wide: you can’t earn Rest in Pistons by killing some of the rares on one character and the rest on another (IIRC, anyway).

The problem isnt the different achievements the problem is there’s 1 in each sub achievement that is far far harder to get than the rest.
It really isn’t that bad. I think a lot of the difficulty is that people aren’t aware of how to do these.
I couldn’t get a couple to drop and then I checked out wowhead and there was an easy way to get them and I got those last within 2 days.
