I know we are supposed to hate bfa but, man were visions so much cooler and more convenient and fun and “easier” than Torghast, which is so funny because Ion hazzikostas was saying back then that visions were them trying that kind of solo content for future iterations, and the future iteration (torghast) wasn’t as good, didn’t give as good rewards either, taking away loot drops from it was a bad idea since it was also changed to a whole-expansion feature… it should have stayed tied to gear drops
(But tbh I’m a shameless bfa 8.1-8.3 lover overall, zones were INCREDIBLE, Nazjatar and mechagon > any shadowlands zone (obviously there were some horrible narrative descisions like the whole night elf arc and how they handled n’zoth/nyalotha as a whole) I had fun in the vale and uldum tho)
I agree. But man, 5 masking on certain affixes that doubled up on a 5 mask run could kill you without anything to prevent. Timed fear affix that made you run into a terror that feared you into another terror that feared you and let the 12 mobs you aggroed get off their stun cast…
i enjoyed 8.3 but the fact is they both had their pain points, Visions’ pain points was the entry fee and the randomness of the vendor tied to it. Torghast’s pain points was that it was in no way voluntary and what you got each week was a paltry sum of what you needed. had Blizzard not throttled it to death it would’ve been enjoyable for the whole expansion.
They both suffered from the same problem of trying to be both single player content and 5 person instance content which led to very uneven experiences depending on spec.
IMHO the end game of torghast was more fun than visions. Five mask visions just ended up as annoying affix glut.
I was the first in my guild to get Faceless and really enjoyed the free mythic raid gear
But you cant deny the forums were basically on fire over the hatred towards Visions, just like we’ll have threads calling torghast better than whatevers new eventually
if people complained about Visions it was the entry fee, or cause they sucked at it. i however was really good at it and got my Mail Muncher in under 10 tries.
Both visions and Torghast had their own pros and cons
Personally I liked visions for the timer but alot of people hated the timer (especially as it got shorter if you made mistakes and also you only had 1 life).
Gear from visions was so easy that raiding was kind of pointless I was AoTC in 6 weeks after starting WoW in 8.3.
Torghast overall with powers makes life interesting doing 2-5 million dps is crazy and fun.
I think Torghast as it is now is pretty fun. You don’t need to do it a lot to get the soul ash you need for a 190 piece for alts, and it’s generally more fun. I like how you can unlock mog in it, now too. I even got a mount once.
I said it early on and I’ll say it again now. Torghast was scuffed on release since it never had a sane reward structure. Honestly in most metrics, gameplay, resources, variety, innovation even torghast is on paper better content then visions. But then they put minimal rewards in it, and that was enough to taint it for most. Even Islands weren’t hated by the end of bfa because they became bored collector content, but Torghast was cursed by being tied to legendary crafting. Especially compared to visions which were a legitmate progression path for gearing, I loved visions for being able to bring up an entire stable of alts to normal/heroic ilvl after 3 weeks of visions prog+1 weekly key.
Torghast is okay. The concept is actually cool. You would experience your toon to have a god-like powers and in the end would face a god-monster. The game is cool but I only had one issue… it takes time to complete it. Later on, they reduced the number of floors and also nerfed the Bosses becoz of the whinings of people who cant get their legendaries. Many people is narrow-minded that they thought that they have to beat this in Solo. They didnt know that doing this in group would make Torghast very easy. There are Classes who can easily solo this but those Classes who are having a hard time to solo this should do this on group and it would make it 5x to 10x easier.
Blizz changed the Vault system. In BFA, you only have one option on Vault, only on M+. In Shadowlands, they brought the Vault to Raid and PvP too and giving 3 options for each. It greatly improved gear upgrades. Unlike in BFA, it’s like raining of epics but majority of those epics were garbage. Horrific Vision loots is necessary in BFA to compensate for the bad RNG of BFA’s limited Vault.
I took advantage of Horrific Vision as I gained extra epics from it. However, it’s unfair to those who cant beat it. BM Hunters who are arguably the most mobile Class in the game are eating Horrific Visions for breakfast on top of the Negative Corruptions being bombarded to the toon. I loved it as a BM Hunter.
On Torghast, I rather do it on group than on Solo and be done with it ASAP so I could play more M+. BTW, on BFA, I only need 1x M+ run per week to get the Vault. In Shadowlands, I need 10 runs to get 3 options on M+ Vault… now 8 runs in 9.2. I need to shorten my time on TOrghast so I could do more M+ in Shadowlands. I prefer Shadowlands setup with the Vault… I had more than 10 consecutive weeks of all upgrades on Vault whereas on BFA, I had series of garbage epics from weekly cache becoz of no option? Really!?
I had fun with Torghast’s Adamant Vaults though… of course, with a group. I am MM right now and I prefer group play on Torghast. If I am BM, I think I could Solo it easily.
