Horrific Visions, Blizzards Horrific Blunder

this post is mostly focusing on the balance issues Blizzard can’t seem to learn from.

So my beef at this time is with the Horrific Visions boss Thrall

I main a warrior tank, I currently don’t have a proper dps spec, and I until this point have not been required or cared for learning either of the Warrior DPS specs.
I spent most of yesterday/Tuesday working my way through the new quest chain to unlock my cloak and horrific visions, I watch a few videos on doing them so I have some understanding on how to maximize my early rewards, only to que up for horrific visions and find out that they are tuned primarily around dps specs. In short, tanks and healers clearly were forgotten when Blizzard said that the horrific visions could be solo’d by everyone.

Case in point

Thrall has two main mechanics in the Org HV, he has a sanity circle or wave like ability that covers either the inner or outer half of the room, once it detonated, it reappears in the half that was previously untouched, your job is to move from inner to outer to avoid standing in the sanity zones when they detonate, fairly simple, except for the second mechanic, A telegraphed stun ability. this stun ability can be avoided, except for the fact that he sometimes will cast it right as you begin to move from inner to outer or vise versa, the stun duration is long enough to keep you stuck in the zone that detonates. So in short, you will start to react and move accordingly to one mechanic, only to have the second punish you by either stunning you before you can complete your movement, or force you to eat the first mechanic to avoid the stun…

I am the first to admit, I’m not a great player, I’m no mythic tank or m+ superstar, but I’ve always been fairly good at picking up mechanics and adjusting to them accordingly, but this type of overlapping mechanics are absolutely stupid. I’ve now lost two Vision keys because I keep either getting force to eat a sanity circle or take a stun and still eat the sanity circle, and with my dps levels being lower to begin with as a tank, I run out of sanity before I can kill the boss, even when starting at 1000 sanity. I can only imagine how god awful this must be for healers to try and solo

now if the stun didn’t happen right in the middle of the sanity circle mechanic, I wouldn’t have any issue with this, but since it does, it makes me question if blizzard is even capable of making this type of content feature worthwhile outside of a dps character, and makes me heavily uninterested in Torgasts potential

apologies for my ranting and raving, but last night was the first time I rage quit WoW since Cata and just wanted to blow off my steam in a place where there is a 0.01% a blizzard rep might see it

nothing else to see here, move or troll along, I wont be checking in on it

I just changed to boom kin in full resto gear pulled 20k dps and stomped on thrall 3 times. Avoid his frontal cleave (lol) and stand in the safe zone. Easy cloak upgrades so far

I got hit by both mechanics and I took very little damage.

You’re bad if you’re getting hit by it, no excuses. Get better.
This is meant to be soloable, so it has to be tuned to the one role every class has: DPS. If you want to go in as a tank, get a group.
BTW, Thrall gets additional mechanics as you clear more optional areas.
(This isn’t even his final form)

Blizz just lost an insane amount of player base on this release. INSANE amount.

The second caster hit Stormwind solo their fail rate on vision goes up insanely. If they have not done their research the two guards outside Alleria will ANNHILATE a caster.

  • As you cast they start a 1 s stun at your feet.
-Then they tp behind you and stab you
  • 5 second rotation… if you move you should have 3 seconds to cast
  • wrong because if the other guard is not cc’d it will offset and your caught in a stun chain
  • guards will not target a pet for the special abilities.
-many casters might fail once then cc kite the other etc etc
  • warlocks on the other hand. I have failed it 4 times now at level 3 cloak stuck in a cc chain.

Blizzard can not put mechanics like this in and expect the average person not to instantly quit playing the game.

  • This is lack of testing and lack of knowledge of the game
  • Poor class balancing as usual

BTW i have like 8 diff champs. not a problem on all the others. warlock… big problem.

  • people hate warlocks cause they do large amounts of damage. what they dont understand is warlocks are required to stand still. Even affliction which is the LOWEST damage on single target with movement.

You can not have mobs teleporting stunning and disrupting casts and expect casters to survive.

Really really stupid on blizzards part.

It was frustrating for me when I was learning it too, but dodging two simultaneous effects isn’t exactly new mechanics.

You must be from classic.

I know in classic having to focus on 1 mechanic can be challenging, but in retail dealing with 2 (or even 5 or 6) simultaneous mechanics is part of the game.

This is an intended overlap made specially to have the user need to watch and plan for reacting to both the void and the slam stun at the same time.

With some practice this is achieved quite effortlessly.

wait a minute

is a warrior complaining about not being mobile enough?

I mostly heal and it took me a couple of tries to get through the encounter on my ilevelish 420 monk. You can get ilevel 415 weapons from doing the weapon world boss every 2 weeks. You do not need perfect traits to complete these encounters. If you do any mythic+ or higher level raiding, your ilevel should be higher than mine was (and I was certainly not on a FOTM melee class).

My warriors are all pretty low level, but I have found fury to be an overall enjoyable spec. Create a level 20 warrior from an AR and go kill stuff to get the hang of the spec. Part of the challenge is that you are trying to learn encounters and the specs at the same time.

I’m totally fine with paying the price for my own failures. What I find completely unacceptable is paying the price for Blizzard’s.

Case in point. I suffered two consecutive Horrific Vision of Stormwind failures yesterday. The first was due to my newly researched Emergency Cranial Defibrillation flat out not working: instead of giving me my one time revive when my sanity reached zero, it kicked me out of the instance.

The second time was due to well documented Hunter issues over a decade old that Blizzard has continued to ignore. In the Trade District, pet pathing left my pet totally frozen and motionless as a statue, so there went my DPS to end combat that way, then Feign Death did not work (yes I had my hand off the right mouse button - I know that, don’t go there) so there was no way to end combat to use an orb, and finally see above about that worthless researched Defibrillation - out again. Too bad I don’t main a Demon Hunter I guess.

I’m willing to pay the price for my screws ups - even the ridiculously elevated cost that Blizzard in their infinite wisdom has implemented in 8.3. What I’m not willing to do is pay for their’s. Horrific Visions are a buggy mess that are also exacerbating well documented class mechanic issues that should have been fixed a long time ago; and the price to be paid for that is way too high.

I agree, visions are clearly unbalanced towards different classes and not at all balanced for tanks. Either way they are unenjoyable slogs, insanity mechanic is not fun, and it is essentially mandatory content if you want to take part in the raid. Dumb dumb dumb, they deserve to lose subscribers for this

Uh… what? Don’t prot warriors do insane amounts of damage compared to the other tank specs?

Thats funny, I know an affliction warlock that is 1 more horrific vision run from getting their rank 7 cape, guess they didn’t get the memo about not being able to do it due to mobility.

These visions have to be done in dps spec, at leat when you start expanding to more zones. Your dps spec is just one click away.

Yeah, on the steps of the cathedral my destro lock and fire mage are useless. My spriest can dot but thats about it. Too many swirls and stuns.

NO they don’t. I have zero Issued doing them as Prot.

Your cloak is rank 5. How many zones do your clear as prot?

It’s a skill check, like the old training grounds. If you can’t beat Thrall, you can’t raid, so people will know not to invite you.

Thrall is ridiculously easy. I succeeded all but once, as a filthy casual with a bear tank (lowest DPS out of all tanks), spec’d for ease of play, and started with ilvl 405. I now have a rank 5 cloak, and better gear so I expect the corrupted zones will have a similar success rate.

In Org I have done 2 sides plus Thrall easily. I’m skipping SW weeks because SW Vision is just annoying.
