Horrible mythic storytime! How can people be so unaware?

So I just ran one of the worst mythic+ instances I’ve ever experienced.

So the affixs were teeming, explosive, and fortified. Not that bad except it was Waycrest Manor (Ew)

Now the group consisted of:

Paladin tank
Holy Priest healer
Frost Mage
Balance Druid
Shadow Priest <—Me

We start the dungeon, kill the weird ghost things by the door, but orbs are being ignored. So I decided for the rest of the dungeon, I would make a point to focus orbs, and hopefully we’d be fine. I realize mage and boomkin are better suited for this, as they have more instants than I do, but whatever

So we go into the first room, and 2 orbs go off because I ate a silence debuff, and could only get to one. We die…

Ok, one wipe, not that big of deal, just get everyone to focus orbs, and we’re good.

So the group leader tells everyone to focus orbs more, even tho he has yet to kill a single one. Right after this, the moonkin starts saying how his dps ramps up too slow, and he can’t kill orbs 🤦

I tell him to moonfire/Sunfire spam them. Whatever it takes to kill them.

So we get into the hallway around the pig boss (I forget his name) and orbs are still not being focused. I’m on strictly orbs duty at this point, but as a shadow priest, I have 1 instant cast spell, Voidbolt.

For those who don’t know, voidbolt has a 2ish second CD, depending on your haste, and mindflay requires 2 ticks to kill an orb. So if 3 orbs pop up, I will only be able to kill 2 before one goes off. I literally can’t handle all the orbs alone.

So some more orbs go off, and we die again. We dust ourselves off and keep going. We get to the pig bosses room and start the encounter. Our healer (Holy Priest) for whatever reason, is running Halo in Waycrest Manor. Literally worst choice ever as it goes through the walls and pulls things.

She ends up pulling a group of 6 mobs into the bosses room when she uses Halo. We wipe again :expressionless:

We finally get the boss down, and the druid is convinced that because the side door in the bosses room is opened, we need to go down to the basement now (we’ve only killed one boss at this point) So he runs in there and pulls the whole group… We almost wipe again because I’m the only one on orb duty, trying to kill them with a channeled spell.

We get to the courtyard where the tree boss is, and the tank pulls the group in front of him. I’m on orbs, mage and boomkin are killing things. Things are alright, until the tank dips and the healer panics. She uses Halo (which I already told her not to) and she pulls the group behind us, and the big witch add in front of the boss (the mob that floats in the air)

So now we got orbs spawning everywhere, and as you know, spriests aren’t good orb killers. So the mage starts helping me snipe orbs, and I think we’ll be ok. But then, the tank’s health dips again because the big add has 5 soul fetish stacks now. I’m frantically trying to dispel them between killing orbs, don’t know why mage isn’t spell stealing to help me, and the tank freaking bubbles! :dizzy_face:🤦

Like why???

So he drops all aggro, and the mage gets his face smashed in. He goes down, and boomkin is next. Orbs are spawning everywhere, and it’s just me trying to kill them. Boomkin dies, and I go down right after.

We all Rez and tell the healer to stop using Halo, and explain why a tank cannot use divine shield under any circumstances.

We get to the tree boss, and pull him. He stuns me, and I notice the mage isn’t swapping to break it. I try to tell them to swap in chat, but I’m in voidform and speaking old God language so FML :expressionless::roll_eyes:

I get free and we down the boss as usual once the mage realizes he needs to swap to roots.

Then we move into the hallway with the stairs. Now this is where everything went to sh*t (even more than it already was)

We died in this hall 4 times. 4 TIMES! First was because the adds in the back got pulled by accident. Second was because the mage pulled before the tank got there, so right when the tank, myself, and healer round the corner, 2 orbs explode and kill us :expressionless:

After this episode of wipes, the group falls apart (thank God) and we all dip out.

I stand there just in awe at how spacially unaware this group was.

How do you not see the patrol? Why would you use Halo? Does no one else see orbs? A moonkin saying he can’t kill them cuz his dps ramps up too slowly? Wut??

How come we had to explain to the tank that divine shield drops all his aggro and he can’t use it? (He was actually shocked at this revelation, and stated he never knew that :face_with_raised_eyebrow:) Mind you, he was over 400 ilvl, and had no idea he wasn’t supposed to bubble as a tank! WAT??

So when it was all said and done, we had about 37 deaths, I had 600g in repairs. Wasted like 7 foods, and a flask… All for nothing but a horrendously unaware group.

I just stood there wondering if I was in the twilight zone 🤦

Thanks for reading my rant. I think I’m done with mythics this week lmao. I’m gonna go level fishing now and avoid other people :joy::joy:

Well he could if he took the talent, but otherwise if he doesnt have a cancel macro or a quick hand to get rid of the bubble he probably shouldn’t use it just to live.

But yea I am sorry for that. I normally would never take a SPriest this week because of orbs, but surprised how you were managing well enough. That boomkin is crazy as well. This is just one of those weeks for being unaware can have severe consequences…

… on top of many people having poor awareness in the first place! At least you got through it and everyone stuck it out.

Oh we didn’t. The group fell apart after the tree boss when we wiped by the stairs 4 times. Only downed 2 bosses

I also kind of figured mythics would be rough this week for my Spriest but I though a mage and moonkin would be fine for orbs. Lol guess not

And people wonder why RaiderIO exists…

TIL SW:P has a cast time.

You brought a horrible comp for explosive week and you got punished for it.

Moonkins are awful for orbs, probably the worst class there is. So he was right about that.

Frost mage OTOH should be very good at killing them with ice lance.

But you, like everyone else it seems, just assumed other classes are better for it than you so you didn’t kill any to start with (Spriest are much better than other dot classes for orbs because you have instant cast in mind flay).

Of course this is my opinion, but as long as my healer does not need help with heals I always take final stand. This helps with reaping to no end and is a good get out of jail free card.

Also orbs are everyone duty but as a pally tank you should be destroying orbs. With my group i tend to get around 75-80% of them so my dps and burn stuff down.

He was better at taking them out, when he actually helped. The tank was actually the best at orbs, but he didn’t seem to notice them very much lol

Only the ghost things at the entrance did I not help. Once the first wave was ignored, I realized no one was focusing them, so I went on strict orb duty

It’s good for one or two. However it takes 2 ticks to kill an orb. So if 3-4 pop up, and I’m not in voidform for instant voidbolt, one of them will go off.

I agree the group composition wasn’t good for explosive, but I thought with coordination we could at least manage it. How wrong I was lol :joy:

As mentioned above, paly tanks are perfect for explosive. They should be getting 80-90% of the orbs. The group sounded like spuds, not the class makeup - though not ideal with no melee.

I’m not sure the key level you were running, but “wrong comp for X, Y, Z” is a ridiculous statement for anything in the 10 range or below. I strongly believe you can literally hand pick the 5 class/specs and time anything in that range with competence and dungeon awareness regardless of the affixes. This sounded like a player skill problem in your group, and unfortunately it happens man. Use that IO and take it seriously, it helps a lot. Good luck

I didn’t really think group comp would be a big deal at that level. Above a 10 maybe, but I’ve done keys at that level with horrible comps no problem, because everyone knew what to do.

Great story. I’ve had some doozies too (and written about them). Kudos for sticking it out as long as you did.

Forgive my ignorance, but… Moonkins are awful for orbs? Really? I woulda figured spammable Moonfire is perfect for orb killing.

Mmmm, nah, Boomkin are pretty bad. Moonfire isn’t enough to one-shot an orb, and you really don’t want to be using Starsurge on orbs. I wouldn’t say they’re the worst (Demo and Affliction are godawful), but they’re on the lower end.

Shadow is mediocre, but better than Boomkin. SWP initial hit is bigger than Moonfire, and Voidbolt will one-shot with a relatively low DPS loss.

(If I put together a group with the OPs comp, I’d expect the tank + healer to get 99% of the orbs. I’ve tanked keys where I literally killed every orb. Heck, if there’s only 3 mobs in the pull, we gain DPS from the extra Shield bounce…)

Sure you wanna spend 3 gcds killing an orb

You just Sunfire or Moonfire it and the DoT is gonna do the rest.

Mind Flay is a waste, just Shadow Word: Pain and the Dot is gonna do the rest.

I only PUG; I’m not in a guild, nor do any of my friends play WoW.

Each weak, I set up a macro to remind everyone about the week’s affixes and how to play; I swear to you that I’ve seen a marked improvement since using the macro.

Things like:

“We all know the drill this week…
DPS: Explosive orbs are always the first priority. Orbs going off will wipe the group; missing a few GCDs of DPS will not.
TANK: Teeming+Fortified means that we need to be a little extra careful and grind through pulls; slow and steady wins this week.
Let’s do this thang.”

I sometimes get some crap for it, but it honestly helps the experience… usually.

My GCD’s are getting consumed by orbs. Please remove all affixes from M+ and increase the titanforging chance by 20%.Also, if you time a 10 everyone should get a piece of loot since 90% of them are non forged, non socketed trash cans anyways.
