I’ve been playing Horde since 2006. My very first toon ever was a Night Elf as I’m sure was the case with many og players, but I quickly switched to Horde when I discovered how fun Forsaken and Orcs were (never vibed with Tauren).
During all these years I never played Alliance seriously, maybe a little bit on some lowbies but never leveled one past 20.
Recently I started some Alliance alts on a different server and have been enjoying it a lot more than expected. It’s a whole new world for me to explore especially zones I never did before. It’s so much fun experiencing quests from the other perspective in Outlands, Pandaria, and BFA. I absolutely love my Human warrior, Night Elf DH, and Worgen hunter. Such a blast to play all three. Winning PVP is also a nice change of pace from losing all the time as Horde.
I find myself playing more on my Alliance server now, which is why I’m transferring my main there. Not thrilled about having to pay both for faction and server change, but it is what it is. Never expected to leave the Horde behind, but tbh they just don’t feel like the same Horde anymore.
Anyone else change factions after years of playing?

Ive played Warcraft since Orcs n Humans.
Ive always leaned towards playing “the good guy” and let’s face it, in the RTS games the Horde wasn’t really painted in that light until WCIII where there was 1 contiguous storyline.
When WoW first came out I also made a NE (druid), really enjoyed it with the exception of teying to level in resto spec because i was healing for my guild and changing specs back then got really expensive. (Thank God they changed +healing to SP).
I made it all the way through Vanilla on my NE. We rand dungeons. We raided. It was fun but i wasn’t always happy with the NE. I wanted to play a high elf. Maybe a mage or a warrior. Something i could feel related to the RTS games i enjoyed so much but of course high elves werent available, Arthas and all until Burning Crusade hit.
As soon as the blood elves became available I made my paladin and my alliance days were over. The horde has been tons of fun and i like the story and quest lines that tell the other side of the story.
Although with the void elves coming into the mix (i havent yet but) ive been felling the pull back to the alliance again.
Yep. I started playing as Horde in TBC, then sort of started trying Alliance towards the end of BfA. Then quit for Shadowlands, came back late Shadowlands then quit again until close to DF Prepatch, then switched to Alliance fully since.
When I started back in Vanilla I had a human Paladin I played with my friends. But when things soured between them I went Horde to get away from the drama. Didn’t go back to start playing Alliance until WOTLK.
Now I switch between both to see both sides of the story.
Warrior was or is a prominent race of High Elves? Didn’t play many RTS and have never paid much attention to Helves in the game either.
Do not do this.
The new zones and quest are something you can enjoy. Once at max level it is all the same. The difference is Alliance raids less overall.
There is no reason to spend the money to faction change your main. Spend that money on something else.

I like having all my active toons be part of the same server and faction. I send gold and profession items between alts all the time, not to mention I have 1.5m gold to bring over with me

That’s cool. You don’t have to explain to me. So long as you are doing it FOR YOU. And not because you expect drastic changes at max level worth paying for.
I’ve played equal levels Alliance and Horde. My preference is Alliance, but I’ve had some fun times on the Horde side!
Granted, RPing helps with that too. It’s nice to play a wider variety of characters.
I joined in wod as horde
I was horde in legion
Alliance in bfa
Horde in shadowlands
And now im alliance in dragonflight.
No doubt next expansion i will be horde again. Until i switch back to the alliance.
Stormwind is just BiS compared Org. If or was half as good as SW id play horde more
Have to be honest switched Alliance when all that Teldrassil and Sylvannas nonsense started. First time a storyline actually annoyed me enough to not even want to be on that faction.
As a long time Horde player and fan of Sylvanas, that whole storyline really soured me on Horde. Also got me emotionally invested in BFA as an expansion.
To this day BFA is one of my favorite expansions LORE wise. No other story even came close on an emotional level for me.
Shame SL ruined that entire story.

Nope, never.
Tried the Horde on classic launch and during WotLK, but my beloved character was always the gnomes and dwarves.
A couple times. Started on Horde in BC, guild stopped playing at the end of Wrath, but a couple went Alliance so I went to play with them.
Always missed Horde though, and those few stopped playing by Mists. So when the BFA reveal came around I knew Vulpera would eventually be an AR, and that gave me the push to switch back, and I did so on the 8.3 patch.
Have always had at least one char on the other side though, post BC, to see all the story & lore.
I’m keeping my orc dk on Horde for that very purpose. Seems like the story in DF is, identical for both factions unfortunately. I have a feeling that it’s the end of faction exclusive storylines. Man, I miss BFA lore

I played both sides for a while, then I played primarily Horde for a few years. After the Sylvanas stuff… though… I don’t know, seems silly but that crossed the line for me. I think the story was handled poorly. Love my Void Elves
Bleh. Been Horde since Nov 2004!
I played Alliance in the closed beta, for like a month. Hated SW then, hated it in the Horrific Visions. Such a basic city.
I just can’t do Alliance.
I can understand this. I ended up with my Alliance on Sargeras and Horde on Azgalor. I play both factions, but I never liked them being all on one server. I also never liked my Horde being poor; I eventually faction changed one class I barely played with a start-up fund. Now both can buy pretty much whatever they want, short of something ridiculous like a 4 million gold mount lol
