So, I’ve seen a number of Vulpera running around Stormwind from time to time. I enjoy RPing a Vulpera over on WRA, and he has a friend who ICly travels between Orgrimmar and Stormwind. (Dracthyr character.)
I’m wanting my Vulpera to join him in Stormwind sometimes, and I think it’d be pretty cool to see how he would react to some of the stuff in the Alliance territories, seeing as he’s only really known Horde locales ICly.
I’ve tried wrapping my head around how this’ll be feasible, and while I know it all boils down to the two different types of prisms… I’m not 100% sure how I’ll go about doing it. I’ve tried coming up with multiple ideas, but I always reject them in the end, because they just end up sounding stupid, or end up being a multiclient scenario, which I am not looking to do.
If anyone could help me with ideas on just how one might go about this, I’d truly appreciate it.
The Pook always likes to keep one of those magic potions that let’s me understand Horde speak. I always find they tend to have something interesting to say. I do this for the Horde players who sneak into Stormwind and the Pook does it when she’s the one sneaking into Ogrimar.
I figure any Horde player who comes across a lowly level 20 immortal and doesn’t react with the stabbers probably has something interesting to say, so why not listen.
I ignore them. Sure the wars basically stopped but the animosity between factions is too rough to allow them free rein like that. Plus half the people doing it are griefing in my experience so…
Bel’ameth and Gilneans are Neutral wastes of space. Give it time and eventually all Alliance cities will follow suit.
Personally for me, as well as my guild’s stance it’s a no. I know it’s 2024 and the lore is all over the place but a few names on a paper and a mandated armistice going into effect doesn’t erase two lifetimes of war and divide. This isn’t from a place of animosity or the likes, I just ignore it because I don’t see it as realistic or even moderately considerable.
The Pook’s stance is maybe, just maybe we should work a little bit on making the world a little less stabby. If the Horde doesn’t stab the Pook, the Pook won’t stab the Horde. Besides, those Blood Elf-boys are kinda cute.
Even for my Argent Crusade guild, the answer is a no, unless there’s ‘official business’ within that city.
We have some characters who are exceptions. My own, for instance, is and has always been RPed as a Half-Elf, and I have this, the blood elf version on Horde, and a Void elf proxy on Alliance.
None of these replies seemed helpful, instead veering off-topic into ‘Whether we like cross faction in city or not’, so I’ll help you out.
Unfortunately, the best way to get vulpera into Stormwind is the prism tricks, and it does require multiple clients open. However, you can choke the performance of the secondary client where your prism slave trial account rogue sits and save computer resources. The saving grace of the strategy really is that you can use a trial account.
It’s annoying at first, but with the new prism items, you can have the appearance last for up to 30 minutes at a time so it becomes a lot less annoying than it used to be.
Also, the kneejerk toward vulpera is downright insanity on the part of the Alliance. Their first big interaction with vulpera was burning down Kiro’s caravans on 7th Legion orders, and nothing else. The timeline is shaky but it was probably after Korthek already died, so the Vulpera’s major conflict was solved. No Vulpera even officially joined the Horde until the Alliance and Horde started focusing on fighting back Old God forces. Even after that, the very next major conflict was in the Shadowlands, so barring instanced skirmishes… no Alliance troops would even be fighting them directly.
The idea that the entire Alliance is somehow aware ‘VULPERA ARE A HORDE RACE AND NOTHING ELSE’ boggles my freaking mind. I sometimes think MG is mostly AI-generated NPCs that share a collective brain cell, eternally repeating the word ‘Rat’ as if it were the most vicious slur they can come up with.
I’ve heard them use “Dog” a lot too which is odd.
But back on topic; as far as Horde races in Stormwind and Alliance races I dont think its to far fatched. An orc may not be associated with the Horde but rather with the Earthen Ring or the Argent Crusade, both neutral organizations and a worgen may be associated with the Cenarion Circle or Argent Crusade, again neutral organizations.
It should be looked at on a case by case basis instead of “HE WORGEN! HE ENEMY! GRRRRR!”
I think it’s just that the Alliance doesn’t want any more vermin in their cities.
And I suppose everyone forgot the second-in-command for the SI:7 is a goblin, and Stormwind isn’t above hiring mercenaries. He’s been there since Vanilla- you can just walk up to him in Old Town.
I dunno. Everyone has their own qualifications for willing suspension of disbelief, though most don’t articulate them past:
“Not racist, just don’ like 'em. Simple as.”
True this. But the counter argument is also: goblins have had years of establishing themselves as true money-first neutrals with only one small portion joining the horde proper.
With reference to OP’s question? I think as you can see with some of the answers above, there is significant pushback.
That said, I have seen a few vulpera done ‘well enough’ to honestly get responses that isn’t “kill now.” Mind you, this is all anecdotal taken from just standing around Stormwind Cathedral every evening watching walk ups and seeing how folks respond in general.
Most of the vulpera I have seen that walk around often tout themselves as neutral/mercenary… Which imo, really is the path of least resistance (not NO resistance, you’re still going to get some, but less) - especially during Monday evenings when we have the Monday Market where all sorts of races show up to make a booth to sell wares. And I think that’s one of the few times where one can virtually roll any race (absolute enemies like Qiraji/really off the beaten path things aside) and you will still get plenty of positive engagement by merit of just being there to sell your stuff/trade stuff.
And it really comes down to how you present your character. I think as long as your vulpera keeps their head down and stress they’re one of those trade/merchant types, I think most will genuinely give you pass even if there are some OOC misgivings. But if your vulpera is the type to strut in, loudly say “yeah I’m fully aligned with HORDE and I’m in Stormwind JUST CUZ, LOOK AT ME” - then I would imagine not many are going to be kind about it.
Vulpera does have a record for being some sort of trade/merchant type - just not as established as Goblins (Vanilla day 1 to now vs… what? Half an expansion pack?). I don’t think it’s clearly define in lore whether ALL vulpera joined horde or ‘just that one band’ (somebody correct me if I’m wrong). So there should be leeway.
I’ve had a few very nice interactions with Vulpera (at least once I stocked up on pots). A handy spot is at the base of the cliffs near the Lion’s Rest monument…it’s in town, but you won’t aggro any NPCs.
I can look as far back as BC, and the realization that the skin a soul is wrapped in is not the primary determinant of whether the person is going to be hostile or helpful, as the basis of Ash’s willingness to grant the benefit of the doubt. Other folks prefer a more black-and-white fantasy, which is fine for them…but I’ll talk to anyone who, to quote our resident gnome traveler, isn’t being stabby.
I sometimes scour for quotes in summary of this server and this might be my favorite comment of the year so far.
Thank you for actually sticking to the initial topic. This is what I was hoping to have answered; just feels like everyone lost the plot of the topic altogether.
I can’t really do the multiple clients game, sadly, so I guess I’m stuck just making him have some sort of disguise when he comes to Stormwind.
With a reflecting prism and a projection prism, you can maintain your vulpera appearance as long as you have a buddy who is willing to be in a party with you. No extra client needed.
- Take vulpera appearance from the world.
- Flee to Stormwind
- Get in party with buddy
- Reflecting Prism to put vulpera on buddy in party, lasts 5mins
- Use Projection Prism to take the vulpera appearance from buddy, buff is up for 30mins
Then you just repeat 4) and 5) every 30mins. It is a bit of a hassle but it works.
Wouldn’t that require said buddy to be up my butt the whole time though? I don’t wanna bore them.
But is the idea of the Alliance being at least of the opinion that the vulpera are a Horde race really that outlandish? The insults, maybe, sure, but Horde races have been calling elves ‘knife ears’ for years now. This was, as you said, the Alliance’s first big interaction with vulpera, and the 7th Legion burnt Kiro’s caravan down because he and his vulpera had been hired by the Horde to transport supplies for them across Vol’dun.
So the Alliance’s first big interaction with vulpera only happened because they were working for the Horde already. And before then Kul Tiras had been dealing with the Bilge Rats for who knows how long.
On the topic of the thread, however.
This is your only way to make sure you don’t get griefed.
It sure is a stretch at least. Like assuming that because one cartel of goblins joined the Horde, that the other goblins are… also Horde. Venture Co. might be a dumpster fire, but they aren’t Horde. Steamwheedle is explicitly not Horde, and owns several neutral settlements where just anyone hangs out.
The unfortunate thing is there’s a lore vacuum with the vulpera that doesn’t describe who did or did not join Kiro and the Horde. But in that lore vacuum, I do consider it an absurd assumption that “They all did”.
But also on top with the thread, yeah a gnomish, worgen, or dwarven disguise is way easier and it’s free.
It’s World of Warcraft. Vulpera are Horde. They don’t belong in Stormwind.
My characters want absolutely nothing to do with Horde in their cities, and I OOCly as a person whose enjoyed what the game’s been for the last 20 years want nothing to do with it either.
It’s baffling people still question why people don’t want anything to do with this forced neutrality in a game that was founded on Horde vs Alliance.
