The Thalyssra thread got me thinking - by the end of the Nightfallen questline, the Moon Guard, comprised of kaldorei , are working out of Shal’Aran. The named NPCs seem to be closely integrated with the named Nightborne ones like Occuleth.
So does this mean the Moon Guard, through their ties to the Thalyssra’s Nightfallen, are now Horde-friendly and/or Horde aligned?
What do you think? What possibilities could this open up for the story ?
The Moon Guard of the Broken Shore may as well be Nightborne; they have almost no affiliation with the Kaldorei of Kalimdor. That being said, I wouldn’t call them Horde aligned, but…Horde…friendly?
Moon Guard dialogue
We watch over Suramar.
I was speaking with the Sin’dorei magi. They tell me of the vast libraries of their home. I would like to see them someday…
Their ranks were definitely devastated after the Nightborne under Elisande’s command slaughtered them, but they still seem to have an allegiance to Suramar.
Left a sour taste in my mouth doing the War of the Thorns campaign as a Nightborne and felt very odd too.
Also with regards to the Kaldorei and the Horde, while I don’t think they can be allies due to the Orcs kinda, sorta, maybe killing a certain demi god. Didn’t Garrosh or someone else say that Night Elves were the perfect warriors? So there seemed to be some respect.
I do wonder what the Moon Guard and Farodin would be up to. Probably more concerned with Suramar, itself.
As much I love the fact that Troll Mages lit the Catapults that burned Teldrassil, Horde aligned Moon Guard serving Suramar would have been just great. Bonus points if Valewalker Farodin was there, too, and said:
“I know trees, and that tree sucks. It looks like some Old God servant planted it against an Archdruid’s command, or something. I can’t believe my people would live there.”
Well, if the Kaldorei who had been aiding the Nightborne felt that joining the faction responsible for mass genocide and the destruction of a World Tree was something they could not overlook, I would imagine they’d have probably relocated to either Moon Guard Hold, or perhaps Dalaran.
Seems like they remained in contact though. When Malfurion and Tyrande show up in Val’sharrah, all the Night Elves there aren’t surprised in the slightest by their arrival, as if they never knew there were Night Elves elsewhere or anything.
Sorry, I thought we were talking about all Kaldorei who had sided with the Nightborne, not just the Moon Guard. Either way, the Moon Guard probably wouldn’t look favorably on the destruction of a World Tree or the Genocide of a race, let alone their own race.
The Broken Isles Kaldorei, while not in direct contact with the Kaldorei from Kalimdo, still had relationships and respect, Valewalker Farodin while not a druid, was what was the combination of arcane knowledge and proto-druidism, so he has a deep respect for Nature.
There is no way to know how they align themselves in the faction war, but I can safely say they’re not simpathetic to the Horde burning down Teldrassil, even if they helped the Nightborne Resistance and were helped by them, I don’t see how they wouldn’t be mad about their own kin suffering mass murderer.
If it was any other spark for the faction war in BFA, i could see them remaining neutral or even horde aligned. But now, either alliance aligned or decided to go back to their place and not get bothered by Nightborne again.
The Moon Guard haven’t had any negative interaction with the Kaldorei (not even a unkind word from Tyrande.) So I think the Night Elves would of been more welcoming of them considering they accepted the Highborne of Dire Maul.
It true that they are more accepting of them BECAUSE of the War of the Thorns… but they would of definitely been civil to each other and they really have no loyalty to the Nightborne (who just recently committed genocide of them.)
The Moon Guard consider themselves protectors of Suramar first and foremost. Had they been inside Suramar when the shield was erected, they would be Nightborne in the current time.
they really have no loyalty to the Nightborne (who just recently committed genocide of them.
Head-canon. Zero basis in-game. The Moon Guard realized that it was Elisande’s forces that attacked them, that’s why when the march on Suramar began, one of the last remaining Moon Guard members joined the Nightborne camp. Not the Night Elves.
I hope you’re not referring to the Burning of Teldrassil, because…
Not really? The Nightborne did commit genocide against the Moon Guard. Just because they followed Elisande didn’t stop those soldiers from being Nightborne. The Moon Guard were essentially destroyed, and the people who did it were, in fact, Nightborne.
The Nightborne of the former regime were responsible for that attack. The last of the remaining Moon Guard joined Thalyssra in her own militia to help liberate Suramar and put Thalyssra in power, so to say that they have no longer have any loyalty to the Nightborne is in fact, head-canon.
