Hopium For Nerubs

Too hyped up for how close it appears that Nerubians to be playable. We have become solid allies, they have been supposedly spotted at the embassy, they haven’t fallen to any gods or liches, and they have a dracthyr skeleton for the bipedal!

I know Nerubs aren’t the pretty option, and some may say naga and ogre first (also want those), but like, they are spider people!! It’s so cool, their lore is tragic, inspiring, and deep! I’m fully ready to feel crushed if the expansion ends and Blizzard passes on one of the best races again, but till then I won’t stop hoping for the announcement.

I still have my main HotS tank Spider King Anub’arak, but I hope to welcome General Anub’azal and Queen Neferess into the protagonist list of racial leaders. :dracthyr_heart:

But no in likes spiders.

You wanted to touch the star with your tongue

They are just glorified traders. Looking to save their queen. They have no means of fighting Xal so they are boot polishing anyone who stops by.

They were so happy we saved and spared their queen. They are in forever debt.

They will insta turn us into a morsel if they get a chance.

Haven’t you heard their voice lines ?

I don’t have high hopes only because the model doesn’t really work for player characters and everything they’re expected to be able to do. Well, one of them does, but the Ascended aren’t what most people are going to picture when they’re thinking of nerubians, and that’s pretty much the only one that’d be workable. I don’t see Blizz doing it.

The ascended are the only ones I can even possibly see as well. My big worry would be the extra arms clipping through gear. I do think they would be an interesting race though; I really like the new races that add a fair bit of difference to the choices.

It’s a steep cost, but worth it to finally have them.

The ones we have any chance of playing are technically insect people, since they have six appendages. :upside_down_face:

They don’t look anything like any prior Nerubians, and not much like any prior Aqir subspecies. Maaaaybe there’s an argument to be made that the Twin Emperors of Ahn’Qiraj set a precedent for extremely humanoid Aqir, but even the Mantid, who were otherwise the most humanoid overall of all Aqir, looked significantly more monstrous than the ascended Nerubians.

I dunno, it’s just not what I wanted when I imagined playable Aqir. Maybe if there’s further development and they got some really nice customization options and cool colors and carapace patterns.

Not going to lie. I want to be a spider just so I can chase people that hate spiders. Yea, I chased girls with bugs as a kid, also had a few girls chase me back with their own bugs…wth was with my generation? ruining my fun like that geeeesh.

The ascended look too human to actually be considered spiders though. The multiple arms are cool, but they look very ‘human’

Why do people think this means anything? It’s a stealthed “Kaheti citizen” which sounds like it’s spying for the Weaver. The Severed Threads are in an alliance of convenience with us, we’re not BFFs.

Nerubian player characters introduced. Arachnophobia filter turns them all into crabs. World of Crabcraft

I think this would be awesome, but the lingering question is - if someone uses the “arachnophobia” button, will your character appear as a crab?

I mean as you progress the three reps and do their quests, you do pretty much become their friends.

Like Anduin said, they’re just people.

In the newest cinematic they said they would forever be our friends and are indebted to us.

The ascended don’t really look like spiders though. They look far too humanoid, which would make it really odd if it set off any sort of arachnophobia wouldn’t it?

Political speech is political, never trust a politician even in a game. Plenty of nations call you their friends in real life too and then turn around and try to ram you with their ships.

Sorry but the Vizier said I was forever his friend and no take backs.

The Ascended aren’t the race I’d like to play - I prefer the spider folk. A playable race like you get with the Fal’dorei Egg comes to mind.

Spoilers: After saving the Vizier’s life and not butchering their true queen, we kinda are their heroes.

Also considering that we are the ones with all of the military might, turning on us would be suicide, especially since they were a more isolationist empire focused on their own survival and doubly so after we go and destroy the current political structure in the first raid.

The interesting thing about Nerubians is they are not strictly spider, Anub’arak was the Spider King despite he is beetle.

Blizz killed any hopes of nerubians with the arachnophobia filter, unironically.

Nah, they enhanced the possibilities. Now we can have spider folk and crab people all in one.
