I am a new player and I pre-ordered BFA. I just got to play the game and I want t oplay through WoW Tokens. I’ve been farming Hook Point 2x4s for like 16 hrs ,but I got nothing. My group members got 4 BoE’s just today.
Is there anything I’m missing? How do I optimize the gold making? Does loot despawn from corpses? (My profession combo is tailoring and enchanting btw)
Farming BoEs for gold is a bit like playing the lottery. It’s not what I’d consider a reliable source of gold. (Not to mention that BoEs value drop pretty rapidly over time.)
As long as a corpse is still up, you can loot it if there’s loot for you. Corpses with loot will eventually despawn. Sometimes the loot will be mailed to you, sometimes not. (It depends on the type of mob and the type of loot and it complicated enough I’m not sure of rules.)
As a general rule, farming for your game time is not a great strategy. You could spend an hour or two doing odd jobs for the subscription money, which will be a fraction of the time you’d spend farming for gold for the subscription. Using gold for B.net balance makes more sense when you have extra gold lying around from just playing that you don’t have any plans for.
With that out of the way, the most efficient way to make gold is by playing the Auction House. This is a game unto itself and requires lots of research and keeping up on the markets. (As well as learning the patterns of your competitors ‚ it isn’t called Auction House PvP for nothing.)
Beyond that, the most steady source of income is going to be farming materials using gathering professions (herbs, ore, and leather) and auctioning off anything you don’t need that you find along the way. You won’t get gold as fast as playing the Auction House, but it takes much less ramp up and research. (And you can just zone out while watching something on another screen while you farm.)

Get to 120 then get the drops, AFAIK mounts can still drop <120, but BOEs won’t.
Bearing in mind with the new raid world drop BOEs aren’t worth as much anymore.

Good lord! Thank you so much for the explanation. It really paints the picture I was looking for. I didn’t have time to play and sub is over, but I am getting back to playing WoW in the summer. You’ve been really helpful. Also, my reason for buying WoW time with gold is more complicated. I can rarely make electronic purchases, and I’m playing from Europe(they sell only EU game time here). But I’ll keep this in my mind. Thank you!
