Honor Gear Grind Is Too Much - Returning Player

I just want to take a moment to share my experience from the last week returning to Dragonflight, and my biggest complaint so far, and hear thoughts from you all in the community as well. IMO we have a big problem with the PvP gearing, especially for the folks that don’t have many friends to play with.

I have always enjoyed PvP, though I am no GigaChad, my highest xp is 1900. So no pro but I do feel I have invested plenty of time throughout the years and have decent PvP experience.

I played DF from the start and completed my S1 Rival set before stepping away for a few months. You know things like Diablo and sorts.

I am frustrated / disappointed by the fact that when I came back I can no longer just jump into the new season and start the conquest grind.

The Honor Gear ‘Instanced PvP ilvl’ is at 437 while my S1 gear is at 424. I can no longer que for Solo Shuffle, no one will accept you to play arenas or do Rated BGs. You now have to spend all your time grinding BG’s and the 12k Honor, before I can play Rated PvP again. (Now when you are leveling this is easy and fun, but I feel on my characters already at 70, this is chore work to play the content I want to play)

I may be wrong but I always felt in the past, the new seasons honor gear ‘caught you up’ to the previous seasons conquest gear, but this seems head over heels ‘better’.

Here is where my real issue lies though. The Honor gear isn’t better for me anywhere except in instanced PvP. My S1 Rival gear gives me 398 ilvl in the world while the honor gear only gives 366. So I am now finding that in order to play the games and type of PvP I want to play, I am going to have to grind my character like he’s a brand new fresh 70.

It seems too much to me to have this many sets of gear, 2 PvE sets (one for Tanking one for DPS) and now 2 PvP sets? (one for the open world and one for instanced PvP?)

Maybe I am alone in my thoughts here but I really would like to see this not be a trend every season moving forward. (Won’t die holding my breath thought Ha!)

Now luckily I have some friends that are willing to que arenas and a core RBG group so I can skip some of this BS but I can’t imagine this is very fun for anyone that doesn’t have a network of friends to play with and relies on the LFG system for games, and we all know how toxic the PvP LFG system is…

I don’t feel this is the case with PvE when new raids come out. If you were raid geared from Vault of the Incarnates, You can immediately go do Aberrus when it came out. It would be like if heroic dungeons now dropped better gear than the the previous raid, and you had to go farm heroics again to do the next raid.

Again I’d love to hear some other’s experience with this… Am I alone here or are others frustrated by this as well?

I think that only requiring 11k honor per season per char is reasonable. It also doesn’t reset, and there’s nothing important to spend honor on, so in a sense you only really need to “grind” 11k honor once per char in Dragonflight, which is doable in like a day or two, and if it’s done via EBGs it’s not even like you can be taken advantage of while being 424 ilev or lower.

We’re nearing the point of gearing being so good that I’m afraid them touching it will mess it up.

This is the best gearing we ever had

Just need to remove this pve tier from pvp ands it’s perfect

11k honor takes like 2 hours to farm

No it doesn’t lol.

I was actually assuming it was a bug that honor gear didn’t have to be upgraded. Like, there’s no way it’s only 11k honor for pre-ranked bis, right? What’s the catch? :dracthyr_nervous_animated: Where’s the fine print?

Level everything to 70 then when comp stomp comes around, gear them all in a single day…Or week depending on how much time you have.

I think the honor farm is fine, the conquest grind feels much slower.
I do wish that the pvp item levels between honor and conq gear were closer though. 13ilvls can be a palpable difference. Gear progression in competitive pvp is not a great idea. But still, as others have said, this is probably the best form of pvp gearing that we’ve had in a while.

Edit: make sure you do the quests available in epic bgs like Wintergrasp and Ashran, they give you a good chunk of honor and conquest.

I’m also a fan of minimal gear difference.

The power gap does help players get rating when they’re against toons in honor gear. So, people do see some progress in their rating as they get geared up. (Hopefully.) They feel rewarded for participating in previous weeks.

This the best gearing we have ever had.

People are gearing so many alts because conquest is just rotting on characters

Honor takes 1-2 days tops

I appreciate everyone’s feedback, Like I said I just really curious of everyone else’s opinions.

I suppose you can farm honor quick if you are winning. You lose 2-3 games in a row though and you made only like 500-800 honor for that hour.

I could see the issue being more with the PvE ilvl like mentioned. If the PvP gear was the same in the world as instanced that would def fix that two part issue and I would be more happy to farm the honor gear.

The problem is the honor gear truthfully isn’t better than my 424 set bonus though.

Maybe I would almost like to see the pvp que requirement be at the previous seasons conquest ilvl (ex for now would be 424 instead of 437) but also I see how people wouldn’t like that being that the only metric people choose for picking their partners is their ilvl…

Again, I see this more for an issue with those players who have to rely on LFG system and being able to just jump into the game and play.

All of this really struck my brain after watching Venruki’s video talking about how WoW PvP is too hard for new players to get into and I see a lot of these little things being the reason for it.

gear wise this has been the fastest pvp gearing has ever been for honor gear
I got full honor gear in like 2 hours maybe?

Not just honor but bloody tokens as well

Y’all farm ~10k honor points very quickly.

But wouldn’t you have just preferred to jump into the Rated right away?

You can with PvE content… Why not with PvP is all I’m trying to get across.

Having to grind another honor set just to replace it with the conquest… seems like a literal waste of time when if they would just adjust it, you could just use your previous season gear to compete in S2

Again, I did just come back. So maybe this was wanted at the start of the season by the player base

i jumped into 3v3 instantly with just the the 424 pvp greens and a honor weapon just fine and got full honor from arenas
bgs just as fast tho

Sure, for those of us with friends and teams… but for the average player that has to use the LFG system… They sure weren’t able too

Dude the honor grind is insanely easy.

so one potential thing they could do would be to take a piece of the page from GW2 and give base 424 pvp gear (at least the base ilvl of the season) litearlly for free but it has 0 pve stats. The stats are only active in bgs. They can be upgraded with honor to add pve stats so these items can be worn in the world for world quest.

Then a second tier of 437 (or season level) that can be purchased with honor, or, made by crafters.

And then the system works as is. Sparks/crest can be used to upgrade the items to the next level and you can purchase the rest with conquest.

By adding that first set in that is free, you stop having the issue of new, returning, or alts being so severally outgeared when they hit 70 that its more detrimental to the mental state of the player and turns people off form pvp all together.

On my new priest I have around 3k honor left to farm to be done with honor gear. Between scalewarden gear, 2 crafted conquest pieces as soon as you get the catchup sparks and weekly quests it feels extremely easy. So far my priest has done: 1 ashran, which they lost but got 1480~ honor from thanks to the seasonal quest and the fact that epics can give a lot even on a loss. And that’s it for instanced PvP.

I also did two sparks of life weeklies, one on Monday when I was still leveling and one on Tuesday after I hit 70. That plus maybe 3 air drops while leveling got me 447 weapons and 434 gear in two other slots which will be upgraded next week. I did two scalewarden quests that were up when I hit 70 too.

The honor from the air drops, two weekly quests and 1 losing Ashran got me 4 pieces of honor gear. I’ll replace my green legs and boots with crafted gear as soon as I get sparks which drop pretty fast from randoms. Then I just have to replace my belt, ring, neck and trinkets with honor which are all pretty cheap.

This is with 1 hr and 45 mins at lvl 70 btw, with only 1 day /played total that includes leveling the old fashioned way, no boosts. To say the honor part of it is extremely easy is an understatement. The only thing that kinda sucks is conquest if you only do unrated, but even then with spoils of war the daily for epic/brawl/randoms are pretty chunky.

Here is the priest for reference:

e: Just to update real quick - I won one IoC and now just need a trinket and a ring + sparks whenever they drop and I’m done with honor.
