What are your honest thoughts on Zereth Mortis? (Music, zone, activities, and many others)
Itās pretty OK⦠which is a very high bar for World of Warcraft, and itās probably the best shadowlands has been, which isnāt saying very much really.
Running out of things to do very quick though.
Hoping to finish with everything I wanted to do before Endwalker 6.1 comes out.
Very small zone once you get flying, the raptora birds are annoying as hell Iām assuming because devs hate flying and theyāre forced to give it to us theyād make it a nightmare on flying mounts. they even have these birds at lower altitudes to give them that extra annoying only in ZM āfeel.ā The zone itself is pretty generic and really only serves as a way to provide gear for a raid most of us casuals wonāt see until 12.0
It has one world boss who does very rarely drop normal ilvl raid piece but the AOE of this boss is murder on melee and some ranged. The bottom line it is the annoying zone that gives me that fingers down the chalkboard feeling when I zone in. every three feet is an aggro and they wonāt break for a long time at which point you run into another pack that agrros you again.
The aesthetics (visuals and music) of the zone are great. I really like the music of the Catalyst Gardens. I was hoping weād get something nice after how dreary Korthia ended up being, and they came through.
My one quibble would be not being able to buy/upgrade specific items. Having to find them again once you hit the next Cypher level is kind of a drag.
Also, it is strange just how much Cosmic Flux we get that we canāt really do anything with. I know the Creation Catalyst is coming soon, but even then, those arenāt expensive as far as Iāve seen.
I think it is OK. Gets old fast but the content is not awful.
I measured Zereth Mortis (with my toy plane and the in-game stopwatch), itās a perfectly normal zone. Not a postage stamp as haters like to say.
Hereās my thread about this:
yeah, but running it on all my alts it gets old fast.
one of the worst zones created in the history of this game
Itās pretty, but basically Nazjatar with 3 mana pearl grinds: sandworn, motes, and cyphers. I actually wanted more jump puzzles and even ones that went really high and disabled lock portals, DH glides, goblin glides, and door of shadows (around the puzzles themselves)
Simple, quick, good progression for solo casuals.
I think itās fine. A big improvement over Korthia for sure.
Looks like a map made from like a fortnite game creator, like core or something.
Just another mindless grind that makes me question why I still try playing this game at endgame.
The whole everybody is robot angle doesnāt phase me since the story is already rock bottom D&D levels of cringe. I just wonder how anyone on the writing staff is still employed since itās clear someone or something with a āplanā involves having to keep Sylvanas alive, despite it being a detriment on almost every level possible in the lore
I also donāt believe for a second sheās still around just because sheās a popular character, rather Blizzard wants to make her THE popular characterā¦when she was never designed to be.
Aesthetics: Pleasing. Good music, pleasant color scheme. Good change from Korthia.
Story: Bottom tier garbage. Not fit for a 10 year oldās fanfic.
Gameplay: Mediocre. Not the worst weāve seen of Shadowlands, but not really pleasing either.
Bonus category - Water: New and original! You can walk on it! Weāve totally never seen this before!
Visually? A nice relief from the drabness of Korthia.
Itās good that I donāt feel like I have to be there anymore. I enjoy hopping over on alts for catch-up but wouldnāt want a forced grind here.
The puzzles scattered throughout are really cool and I feel like we got the right amount of time to enjoy them before flying trivialized it (would really love to see the game designed with flying in mind from the start but thatās a whole different thread)
Good zone. In terms of recent memory Iād put it somewhere above Korthia, below Nazjatar, maybe Mechagon adjacent.
Now that the rep grind to revered is done, I think it is better.
Turns out when you donāt feel obligated to do something, you enjoy yourself more.
I love Pocopoc, Iād give my life to save Pocopoc. The rest of Zereth Mortis is alright. The sword mogs are cool, definitely still farming them on alts. The zoneās aesthetic is nice.
The catch up gear is amazing for alts, that has to be my favorite part, so far.
I unlocked flying and left. Itās pretty but the swarms of birds are just annoying to the point older content looks better.
Music: I swear I forget thereās music every time Iām there so⦠kinda forgettable.
environment: surprisingly grows on you, I think PR took a vacation because the review video really only showed us the WORST parts of Zereth Mortis honestly, itās like an old nostalgic Pixar movie,
Activities: more stuff needs to count for rep and the rep needs buffing, also not a fan of the open world system bleeding into regular raiding tier specifically, not even LFR, NORMAL raiding and up⦠stop trying to force us into raids (Iāll do it when Iām darn well ready to!).
Final verdict: endearing but pointless and a little irritating.
Visually, I like it, mostly. Itās easier to navigate than Korthia and not as drab.
However, game play wise? It feels ā lacking. Iām finding myself enjoying Korthia more after ZM. Iāve leveled a number of toons to 60 and canāt bring myself to do ZM on more than 3 of them, the rest are sticking to Korthia to give me a change of pace. ZM has the dailies which doesnāt give rep, a few WQ, bosses that die too fast to get to and takes longer to do the weekly.
And other than grinding rep (and cyphers which Iām doing for gear drops) it doesnāt feel ā like it has a point. Other than spending x cyphers for console level, I find myself just upgrading whatever I have cyphers for and not really caring what so-called āupgradeā Iām doing.
The pet/mount option is a nice to have, but very grindy for motes. Not terrible, not great.
Overall, I have to say: āMehā.
