Honest question

I am wondering what exactly the problem with transmog is. I have asked before but I was wanting get one topic that hopefully wont get derailed.

I am not advocating for transmog in this version of the game. I am not wanting to debate other quality of life changes from other expansions. I want to know peoples problem with it beyond “it is for retail and retail is that way ->”

Is it a AH thing? Prices go up for the pieces that look better? Is it an alt thing and it makes it harder to gear alts? Is it a wierd power thing because if you give an inch you are affraid they will take a mile?

Genuinely hope we can figure out what exactly the issue is and maybe put some of the debate to rest. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

If you are looking for a logical debate about one’s preferences, then I’d suggest that you consider the logic of your own actions.

For example, I could say I prefer pizza with pepperoni and without mushrooms. One could tell me that mushrooms as an additional topping come at no extra cost, but add nutritional value, and that it is illogical for me to prefer pepperoni pizza. However, this will not compel me to wish to eat pepperoni pizza with mushrooms.

If you’d sincerely like to dive into some reasons behind why I don’t personally like transmog, I could try to dig up some very old posts that go into depth with their explanation, but (as most who seem to dig up this old topic tend to do) you could also just ignore all of that, because it doesn’t really matter why someone has the preferences they have.

We could bring logic and reasoning to debate all the merits of Retail and see it’s objectively a much better game for everyone. It’s not my personal preference though.

You already know all the arguments.

Transmog isn’t a problem. It just fundamentally changes the focus of the game from the world to the character.

That was very long winded. Lol so your reasons are what exactly? I am sure it is buried in there. I was hoping you would maybe shorten it for consumption for a mouth breather like me.

Cool. Well good luck buddy.

For me it’s another system that promotes mediocrity. And unfortunately it’s not the system itself, it’s the players.

Most players transmog what’s in fad at the time so it makes everything bland. Kind of like marketing the most stylish shoes or clothes. Everyone just flocks to one type and then you’ll have a city full of the same people in the same transmog.

I think he’s just saying pepperoni is the only acceptable pizza topping.

So you dont like pepperoni… it is what the gnome said.

The 300 other threads on the same topic weren’t good enough?

The real issue with adding transmogrified beyond all the “I want” or “No changes” is transmog isn’t added until Cata, and likely would require a significant outlay of resources to add to the ERA stacks that run the ERA, HC, and SOD servers. With the small size of the dev team thats working ERA/HC/SOD versions, adding things like transmog for a seasonal server just doesn’t make a lot of sense when they are already probably at capacity from making new raids, spells, and fixing bugs and balancing the game.

I want to have creative control. Its a power thing. Like being the door man and a fancy dining place. “No we are booked up. Go away”

Control is an illusion.

Wanting power on the WoW forums is just… Sad.

I could come to you and dress you up. I am sure you would fit in a lot of the dresses i have.

The only “legitimate” reason that I’ve seen is that it makes it harder to distinguish someone’s relative power in PvP (which I don’t agree with, there’s no way you can actually parse what gear someone is wearing in the heat of battle, but at least I understand the logic behind it)

Other than that it’s mostly just been “there’s lots of reasons you’re just ignoring them”

Here’s another honest question:

Why make visually appealing armor as participation trophies, if you can sell said participation trophies for cash instead?
