Things like tux set with stats and leg armor or spell thread, dress shoes with stam or speed, farmers broom with a chant like spell power, monocle with 100hp. All these wearable by lvl 3 and non bound. You can either sell or mail to another toon when you spec out of them. Plus, you look cool and sophisticated.
its called a grindset
Never heard it called that, boost gear was what I used to call it before wotlk actually introduced “hand me down BoA gear” or heirlooms. Not that it matters what you call It I was just showing peeps things you can do to enhance game play at low lvls and make leveling faster vs the standard 1-20 lvl green gear grind
the standard is a skinning knife for lvl 1-34 with spellpower from mc, and a lvl 35 or plus non bind on equip dagger with 40sp for lvl 35-60~.
I have actually found that SP on a skinning knife is not the best. I mean, it does help but in terms of maxing kills per min and minimizing downtime I have found +22 int to weapon to be FAR superior if you cast. And in many cases +5 dmg is better than both (even on casters) … just crush stuff w/ auto attacks.
Thanks for the insights. I’ve got a letter opener on my mage; I was going to do sp, but Intel sounds better. My warlock has the broom with sp. Black dress with 100hp and tux pants with runic spell thread. I figure sp is better for warlocks because I can Regen Intel from stam, and it pads my dots and my imp. Us a glowing purple broom just looks cool . What’s your insights on gloves?
Most of what I am doing is 1-10 so I can get into an RFC boost group. In terms of casters, you should really look into melee from 1-5 at least. I found this accidently when I ran out of mana w/ my +int dagger after killing like 5 or 6 things back to back and did a few mele swings to finish it off. Mele is pretty strong across the board at low level.
I mean think about it, a Rogue vs War vs Priest in the first 5 levels … you only have a handful of abilities and stats are not all that diff w/ no gear.
1.6 speed and +5 more than doubles your dmg …
+30 sp is a nice boost … but you have to ask yourself … does it DOUBLE your dmg?
In terms of gloves, agi for more dodge / crit is my goto
8% speed to boots is a no brainer for all the running you do before mount, is there any way to get higher speed than that?
So, I have been leveling some alts up to boosting level recently and took another crack at this.
I still stand by my +5 or Beast Slay on Skinning Dagger, but I found something else that is arguably even more broken OP
+Haste to gloves
+Rapidity to Noble Monocle
+Rapidity to Level 1 Cloth Pants
This allows you to take a skinning dagger from 1.6 to .9 speed or a 1.5 enchanting wand to .84 speed
at these speeds dmg is comparable if night slightly better than spells of that level … but you never have to drink … thus no downtime
I knew haste was good for lowbies but I never looked at the numbers to see how good after the TBC changed %haste to haste rating.
from 1 - 5 I was averaging about 10 dps w/ mele against beasts in gnome starting area
from 5-10 I was averaging 19 dps w/ haste boosted enchanting wand
I might be able to boost this even higher w/ a quiver
EDIT: nope apparently quivers / ammo pouches dont effect wands anymore
Cool thread. I wish we had more like it.
I always liked Crusader on my leveling weapons. I mostly experimented with this during WotLK… Orbs and shards were quite easy to get then.
I found weapon chains to be quite useful for later levels, however.
It’s sad they put all the restrictions in that they did. You used to be able to make LvL1 twinks that were pretty OP and could fight level 70 players due to the stat scaling.
Rose color goggled - with helm enchant (HP or Dodge rating %)
Fire festival shoulders - with ZG enchant (you used to be able to enchant through trade window)
Cloak - Dodge enchant
Chest - HP
Bracers - Stam
Gloves - Haste
Pants - Nethercoba
Boots - run speed (I don’t remember if surefoot worked) ’
Weapons - Fiery (I think Crusade didn’t work or is was too expensive for me)
but they added level requirements and soul binding which made it sad. I loved having my level 1 parked in Northshire and wait for people to try and attack me. They would switch to their mains and still could barely kill me due to 95% dodge. We even Warlock summon’ed him to Wintergrasp in Wrath. He had the achievement for killing each class (including DK) at level 1.
The good old days.
No it’s not.
I think he can call it whatever he wants.
Simple Dagger or Keen Machete are common level 1 items that do not bind and will take an enchant.
A step different than a skinning knife because they are actual weapons, so your melee class can still use abilities with it.
Fiery is pretty fun. Proc 40 and crit 60.
Never tried haste but that sounds awesome, good stuff.
Skinning Knife is also invalid for Wizard Oil, which kinda sucks.
