Been having disconnect issues from retail ever since the pre-patch for TWW. Was happening everywhere. Instances, Val, Dorn, mounted, or just standing still. Not constant, but like 2-3 times per hour of gameplay. I would get logged out of Bnet as well. It’s almost like I’m getting ddosed.
Tried a full UI reset to no avail. The only real solution so far has been to play via mobile hotspot. Internal problem. Not a long term solution.
What I’m asking for is suggestions for a new home Wifi system which will fulfill whatever the requirements are to play WoW disconnect free. Ethernet cable is not an option. If it makes a difference I live in Australia, though I play on a NA server.
Adding wifi extenders, pod like devices might help. Unfortunately not knowing what your housing situation is like, like how many walls are between you and the router, or if they are wood, or say reinforced concrete like in a apartment or dorm.
Its not just you. Actually Im having the same problem since pre-patch using WiFi. Its not something on your system. I had been on an active call (Microsoft Teams) at the same time I had WoW Retail opened and nothing happened to my call, just WoW.
try going to game menu > options > network > and turn off (un-check) Optimize network for speed.
having this checked can cause you to disconnect frequently if your WiFi is not optimal. this will help with connection issue. hope this helps.
with WiFi you want to get your router in a open area away from other walls that can block connection. also check the signal channel that it is on. switching to a different channel can help with interferences. also pods or other WiFi extenders.
with the extenders you want to put halfway from your router to the spots that have drops in connectivity.
Tried this suggestion earlier today and had 1 DC in about an hour of gameplay. Then switched to mobile for an hour and had none. Small sample size and I may have to address other issues first.
The house is small but long, an attached row house with all internal walls being drywall/gyprock. The modem router enters at the very front of the house and I connect via a plug in range extender exclusively when playing WoW on my laptop. Unfortunately I don’t have a set location to play, and will switch rooms as is necessary. I don’t have connectivity issues with anything else.
Was just wondering if anything has changed for WoW requirements in the last few months.
not that i have seen. its been steadily the same requirements. unfortunately with wow and other mmorp its about lag and connection stability or the game starts buffering.
with the house being long like that it would be beneficial to have the router about halfway in the middle of the house and about table height. if not able to do that then an extender about halfway from the router to the end of the house.
i would also check that the router is not blocking wow services with the firewall. the firewall on the router could be bouncing services. also checking the channel.
usually on a IPv4 the channel is like 1 or 6 on the 2.4ghz and like 11 or 6 on the 5ghz. that is also another thing to check if you are staying on the 2.4ghz or the 5ghz; sometimes the router bounces you back and forth between the two. making sure you login to one or the other and not duel band. i had this issue when i was in college. i would be on 5ghz in the common area and then switched to 2.4 when i went into my room. my room was at the end of the house. so i connected only to the 2.4 and then put an extender in the the hall closet on the top shelf and that fixed my issue.
in my house i have my main router in the front room at the front of the house, then an extender at the back of the house and a mesh pod in the garage to have WiFi everywhere from the front door to the garage in the backyard. and i know it will bounce me from ipv4 to ipv6 and 2.4/5 when i walk around. usually this is not an issue because im just checking social media and browsing around. but would cause issues if i was to stream something or do an activity that requires buffering.
