Holy Prot Paladin 60 Builds 1.13?

I am playing a Paladin for the first time in WoW classic/Vanilla. I leveled as holy and then ret, but plan to be a raid/group healer. How ever i want to be able to farm effectively as I will be needing a mount and lots of gear now that I am close to 60. My question is can I do those things as something like 30/21/0 or do I need to be something more like 20/31/0 or 31/0/20?

I would really appreciate input as I don’t have a clue about Paladins in classic.

Pretty sure you can build for mostly healing and then use a 2h with seal of righteousness to farm with. It scales with SP. It’s been a very long time since i played vanilla though.

kinda depends on what you’re trying to farm.

simply having consecration and a plate set is enough to farm lower level dungeons easily enough.

personally I’d go like 31/20, take kings, and shield spec, then just run into lower level dungeons and aoe farm, no higher than cathedral.

or if you’re feeling a bit crazy, you could go 30/21 and get blessing of sanctuary but lose holyshock, you’ll have more survivability, but lose out on the instant heal/damage from holyshock.

either build will bring a bit more utility to groups with a decreased blessing of protection CD, and blessing of kings

but I’m also no paladin expert, just speaking from my own experiences playing classic.

I’d always get 20 or 21 points into holy so you can effectively heal in raids/dungeons, then base the rest of your talents on what you want to do. For farming I’d always go deep enough into prot to pick up Blessing of Sanc.

How deep you go into prot fully depends on if you want to grind out high level dungeons and how good your gear is for aoe farming, (lashers/sorrow hill/ect).

Picks up a decent amount of holy talents for healing/less downtime, brings Kings/BoS for group stuff, Spiritual Focus+Improved Concentration Aura for easily casting while having multiple things aggro’d onto you.

Setup if you’re on the low gear end while also having good threat generation talents if you like to tank dungeons or heal dungeons/raids. 1H Spec is really good right now for threat generation esp with reckoning “fixes” going on right now.

You could also go with this variant for pure aoe farm speed, this is after you get a good amount of gear and you want a bit more of a ‘lazy’ setup.

Items to look out for:

Uther’s Strength
Demon Forged Breastplate or Truesilver Breastplate (if you can’t afford it or you’re very low on Spell Power gear)
Skullflame Shield or Argent Defender (Argent Defender has good synergy with Blessing of Sanctuary and when you don’t have enough gold to afford a SFS)

other notes:

  • I wouldn’t worry about trying to get DFB or SFS if you don’t have a lot of spell dmg gear (like t2 helm/legs or reed). The leech heal from these items do scale with spell dmg but not worth the investment. Truesilver Breastplate is super cheap in comparison but the heal does not scale with +healing.
  • Force of Will trinket’s Damage Reduction does have diminishing return value with Blessing of Sanctuary’s Damage Reduction. So if you’d like to use Force of WIll, it’s possible to not have to go in as deep into prot to pick up BoS.
  • An amazing chest enchant is Lesser Absorption (5% chance per hit of giving you 23 points of damage absorption), this will help you farm up large packs of mobs, especially lashers.
  • For gear, don’t for raw stats are AMAZING for farming. The more raw stats you have the more breathing room/larger pulls you can do, which increases value on your % to be hit items. With current gear I can do the lashers in 3 pulls (just above 6 minutes) so I have to end up pulling the stealthed demons in order to not hit the instance per hour cap.
