Holy Priest vs Holy Paladin

So I am going to level a healer alt for Shadowlands, and I am down to one of these two. Which one does more damage and has more survivability in regular questing/world quests/solo content? Thanks.

Holy Paladin’s entire healing kit revolves around dealing damage, and due to wearing plate, is more survivable.

I don’t even think it’s close. HPal by a mile.

Glimmer :nauseated_face::nauseated_face::nauseated_face:

Glimmer aside, all of the best HPal builds are going to be built around Crusader’s Might and craning out as many Holy Shocks as possible. Any ‘ranged’ build ignores our mastery and ignores the fact that Infusion of Light procs are simply not that worthwhile in its current form.

Just glancing at the HPal’s talent tree in SL, you have:

Row 1: 2 DPS abilities, and Bestow (which is probably the worst healing ability in the game)
Row 2: 2 talents incentivizing damage, one talent which adds a slight shield to Beacon
Row 5: Divine Purpose (Cranking out Holy Shock), Holy Avenger (increased HP generation, which is only generated through damage), and Serraphim (Stat buff)
Row 6: Sanctified Wrath (More Holy Shocks), Avenging Crusader (DPS), Awakening (WoG procs wings, which, again, is useful for Holy Shock)
Row 7: Glimmer, a second beacon, and BoV, two of the three benefit most as a result of HS.

Almost all of your talents involve you dealing damage in some way. There is no way to get around this and not be wasting half of your spec’s strengths.

I can’t even think of a build that involves talents synergizing and doesn’t, in some way, revolve around you dealing damage.

Holy Paladin does way more damage and has more survivability in all content.

That was an AWESOME write up!! Thank you Alyrha!

I mean, okay I guess. You’re going to talk down to me as if I don’t know the class I main, and then when I explain to you that all synergistic HPal builds require DPSing, you then just get all sarcastic.

NO. I wasn’t, at least that was not my intent. . Honest. It was a very well stated explanation that is not usual for people to post on here.

My statement about Glimmer was to just add a voice to that you can heal without melee, although not as affectively as you pointed out.

I am sorry if you took my reply as talking down to you or my reply to your post as sarcastic. That was not my intent. I am sorry.

not entire kit no in fact just a few abilities lol wish blizzard would make up its mind on us

See my following post that breaks down how every part of our talent tree in SL (minus CC utility) is literally built around dealing damage/cranking out holy shocks in order to heal.

Considering Blizz hasn’t touched Holy with a 10-foot pole with any meaningful changes to its abysmal DPS…yeah, I think a Holy Pally is in your future!

That said, if you enjoy caster DPS upon occasion, then picking a Priest and leveling Shadow while switching over to heal as Disc or Holy for dungeons might feel a lot better. And Shadow is definitely going to do better out the world than the Holy Pally.

Whereas the only spec of Pally I find fun is Protection, which is a whole different animal.

But good luck in your choice! Wanted to both cry a little for Holy Priest and put in a plug for the 'ole Shadow.

Holy Priests are better healers by a mile. Paladins have better dps and personal cds though. Holy priests have better group CDs.

I once had a holy paladin slowly murder me in an arena.

Wasn’t. A. Thing. I. Could. Do.

Paladin crusader striking will generate more Holy Power and have stronger mastery in general if they go to the frontline.
