Does anyone happen to have any holy priest tips for talents and spec loadouts? For some reason the spec my priest is using doesn’t seem to pump that hard. Here’s a link to my priest’s armory: Eittol - Character (blizzard.com)
My recommendation is to look at Holy Priest in RBGs (See Murlok IO below, can’t post links so just remove the spaces) and open up all the top priest to get a general idea, and then work your way into what works for you and your team. There’s no one-size fit all, you’ll move stuff around depending of the map, teammates and enemies. For example, most priest won’t take Holy Nova. I did on cap maps (AB, EotS, BfG, Deepwind Gorge) by moving a point from “Move with Grace”, because my team was terrible at spinning flags. Another example would be switching from Sheer Terror to Void Tendrils in Silvershard Mines.

In the priest tree (left), there’s 2 paths that people take with Holy Priest: The Mind Game path, or the Power Word: Life path (everybody takes Void Shift) . From there, you can build a bit going for Angelic Bulwark or sticking to Fade talents. In the Holy Tree, you’ll have people going on the left with AoE or people going on the right with damage and full-on PoM build. During last season, the PoM build was the most popular and I have a soft spot for it since it keeps going even while CCed. I learned to appreciate Empyreal Blaze and Burning Vehemence with practice, since that extra DPS right after a Chastise can really secure a kill in a teamfight. The higher rating you’ll go in RBGs as a healer, the more your ability to damage/cc as a healer becomes important.
If I had to change things around for you, I would say try this as a suggestion. I stayed close to what you had in the Priest tree, but really made the big changes in the Holy part:
BEQA/KVNHBYFUG61hTBXiMbcYSEAAAAAAAQiUSSSSSCACSJJpEAAAAQTLNIJBQKJCJkSRRSSIFA
Why the changes ? (compared to your current Armory spec)
In the general tree:
Spell warding will give you more than Blessed Recovery in most situations. Blessed Recovery is mostly useful against rogues, hunters and warriors. You’ll get more against any other class.
Power Word: Life is your best friend. I know some priest try avoid it, but it’s just necessary to get used to it. You’ll want to use it as much as you can, make it an easy keybind. It’s your third Holy Word: Serenity. Out of the 35 best current priest who went for that capstone, 29 of them took PW: Life, it’s just that good.
Improved Purify is kind of useless in RBGs, I would say putting it into your mobility (Angelic Feather) is better. DKs will not like it, but if you play with a healer Monk, their revival will take care of that in one button while you waste global cooldown and mana. You could switch to it when facing DKs and having no monk healer, don’t forget to move it around when it’s useless.
Why not mind games path ? This build is leaning more into damage on the Holy Tree, but if you feel more comfortable going full-on damage with Mind Game and Chastise-dps, that’s up to you, but understand you’re trading a lot of survivability with that option, so you can become a prime target for being focused and dying first. You’re not useful being dead first.
In the Holy Tree:
You need Chastise. Whatever you want to take Censure with it is up to you and your rogue (It cause problem to their stun DR, yet not being broken from damage is sweet to pressure other healers, so just avoid stunning the same target). But you need Chastise. Empyreal Blaze and Burning Vehemence are linked to it for that extra pop. When your team is fighting, stun a healer with Chastise, switch target with the dps of your team and burn your target down. Even if the target didn’t die, that’s great pressure. Extra fun if you have multiples stacks of Divine Image. And that’s all instant-damage, so no lockout from kick. A good focus macro can be very helpful. You’ll need to keybind focus target, but here’s a macro for your focus target:
#showtooltip Holy Word: Chastise
/cast [target=focus] Holy Word: Chastise
You need Desperate Times, you can’t pass on a 20% healing increase on targets at or below 50% health. That’s a must-have to keep your tank alive in flag maps for example.
Divine Word is not necessary. You need the point for Desperate Times.
You should probably try moving the 2 points from Epiphany to Light of the Naaru and test around how it feels. Depending how you feel about it, pick one of the 2. The current link is with Epiphany.
And I would also add, change the PvP talent Sanctified Ground to Seraphic Crescendo. You’ll want to couple Spirit of Redeemer with Divine Hymn during teamfights with the right timing, and follow up with a Mass dispel. You’ll see they all have 2 minutes cooldown with that, and Spirit of Redemeer protect you from backlash from dispelling warlock/shadow priest dots and there’s no mana cost (20 000 mana!) from it during Spirit of the Redeemer.
My current loadout in my armory is not a recommendation, it’s very specific to my ( I should say previous, because they’re not playing Season 4) team and my playstyle (Being a tanky annoying non-moving healer)
Hope that helps. And good luck in your adventures as a Holy Priest in RBGs. It’s the start of the season, people are trying out new things, so don’t be afraid to switch a few talents, especially while missing set bonus (and again when you get the set bonus…)
Thank you so much for all your help. Truly appreciate the feedback and commentary. Its unfotunately late. So, I will be heading to bad. I’ll read over everything you said in the morning. Again. thanks so much!
My feedback will not be as thorough as Shastity’s and I haven’t played many RBGs but what I can quickly tell you is that lightwell will probably treat you better than divine word. It’s very effective in pvp right now because people are constantly dropping to low health, and often at inconvenient times for you i.e. when you’re chain CC’d.
Also holy priest is specifically tuned toward the 4 piece tier set bonus and it will likely underperform without it.
