So I came back for the current xpac after a long time away. Im having fun playing Priest (new to it) but im running into some problems. I’m burning through my mana pool and im constantly getting stunned and unable to cast holy spells for a bit. But the classes im playing against are not running OOM so its just this eventual death after minutes of running around. Any suggestions for a new priest?
Play a more instant cast POM/ Oracle build
Bait some kicks with mind control
Positioning behind pillars use our range.
Really long games do result in being oom, but Im finding not too many go that long ATM. Use shadowfiend, enlightenment divine word etc to reduce mana cost

I’ve been playing Holy since Vanilla. I love the spec, but I’m going to give it to you straight as an average, casual player - the spec is in awful shape.
It is… neglected.
I feel like the devs hold some personal malevolence against the spec. On the Priest forum we’re routinely called the ‘wheelchair spec’ because we’re hobbled 90% of the time and need to have someone else to push us around.
My frost mage and ret pally have taken up my time this xpac. They’re simply more fun.
And playing them disappoints me even more because they rain such fun and cool talents on survivability mechanics on these two classes.
Meanwhile Holy Priests… I mean how else can we not view it as malice? I knew when a certain WOW dev came back into the fold things would be bad for Holy (I still haven’t forgotten the Ham of AB). But I didn’t think it’d be THIS bad.
It’s not you - it’s them, the devs. And I have little hope for 1.11, even with the reworks because they just… don’t care. I’ve learned this xpac that they just don’t care.
And they haven’t cared for a very long time.
Honestly that’s what build I am, but I still find myself ooming far sooner than other healers
- When facing off other Holy priests, I find we both tend to oom around the same time lol
That being said, disc priest can keep up with holy priest healing + deal far more damage than them AND still have far more mana.
#Give Holy Priest some love in PvP
Honestly holy priest has been bad for a looong time. It’s decent in bgs sometimes, I gave up and mostly play shadow ( yes,I know) -.- and sometimes disc now.
Yeah — I tend to find myself ooming FAR before the other healers in arena do, unless they’re also a holy priest or a resto shaman
- Heck I was PvPing on another character & noticed the enemy healer was oom … Hardly to my surprise they were holy, lol
Discipline priests seem to be able to dispense a longer period of healing AND damage (obviously) whilst holding WAY more mana-capacity in the longer process too.
So holy priests sort of feel blue-balled in the mana-department
As priest, you have no real mobility, so pre-positioning to avoid CC matters immensely.
Constantly stay at ~max range almost all the time you can (make sure to talent into Phantom Reach) and you’ll outrange most crowd control. If you are at ~max range, a warrior/rogue/pally will have to break from melee and run toward you to storm bolt/blind, and that will give you (1) a clear indicator that they are about to CC you, and (2) time to avoid it with either the fade PVP talent (Phase Shift) or by chastise-stunning them and moving away.
You can also use Spirit of the Redeemer to freecast without being CC’d, AND it will also save you mana b/c all heals are free in that form. So that will help with both issues.
Make sure you are using the Hymn PVP talent, so it will heal your entire group to full. Remember that it can heal out of LOS, so run behind a pillar before casting it to avoid being CC’d. Again, this will help with both mana and CC issues, because you’d have to use a ton of mana to heal up your entire team using other spells.
Too often, DPS will force you into a bad position (running behind a pillar, etc) where you will have to run across the map and risk getting CC’d to save them. Try to save your Chastise stuns for those moments, and stun whichever ranged DPS or enemy healer is hanging out in the middle of the map to CC you and then use feather to run to the safety of a new position. In many cases, that will allow you to cross safely and get in a position where you can heal your teammates better
Lastly, remember that Apotheosis makes all your Holy Words free, and Lightweaver comes with mana reduction as well.

I mean … we have:
- ‘Body and Soul’ which cause Power Word: Shield to trigger a buff on the target, increasing their movement speed by 40% for 3 seconds.
and
- ‘Angelic Feather’ which increases your movement speed by 50% for 5 seconds — and we get THREE charges of that too.
So I’d wager the claim of priests having “no real mobility” would be a false one, unless of cause you didn’t select those talents.

In terms of being OOM, Im generally able to heal 150-180mill before needing to drink.
I noticed you using Miraculous Recovery heroic talent… which I’d swap for Waste No Time, making Heal instant cast and for less mana.
Also Spirit of the Redeemer - as it’s 10 seconds of mana free casting and immune to all interrupts , and a 60 yard range. It’s waaay too good to pass up.
Also, Sanctified Ground is buggy - it doesnt always work and a waste of time.
In terms of stats, I run 32% Mastery and 28% Haste (at 639ilvl in PvP), combined with Lightweaver makes Flash Heal a 1 sec cast and Heal a 1.2 sec cast… super quick. Mind Control is a 1.5 sec cast, which makes it really effective in arenas.
At 32% Mastery (with weapon enchnt to increase it to 37%), I get upwards of 1.3 mill Echo ticks… which is huuuuge. Holy is incredible at that point.

I feel Renew wouldnt be strong enough, even with the Divine Word buff. Unless I’m missing something here?
Perhaps in random BGs and lower mmr blitz it might be ok… but when you get to 2.1k+ mmr teams, the better target switching and bursts cause players health to drop significantly fast.
