Holy Paladins (prepping for Heroics)

Where my TBC Holy Paladin mains at??? My beautiful plate-bound brothers and sisters of the Light!

Is there a bunch of crafted gear we should aim for when we hit 70, to get started in Heroic 5 mans? I see a bunch of “preBiS” videos online for so many classes/specs, but it’s so hard to find Hpal content out there.

What are your specific plans for prepping for Heroics? Let’s talk Hpals!!!

It’s hard to find holy pally content because holy pallies are the worst healers in BC lol. I don’t mean to burst your bubble but you should look at going prot or ret on you pally and boost a priest if you want to heal.

Nooo, leave my Bubble alone! :stuck_out_tongue: I know Paladins are technically weaker than Druids, Priests, and Shamans in TBC, but I really enjoy them. Are they straight up not viable for 5 mans? I’m willing to put in the effort to perform on them, even if its harder, but I hope they are at least somewhat viable…

crafted gear is good but gets replaced quick for hpals
also holy is the bottom tier healer on tbc

objectively weaker

Is that something I should go Blacksmith for?

I’d like to know this. I’m RDruid right now but I don’t think I wanna struggle even more if this is the case lol.

if you plan on ret go BS holy gets little to nothing from bs, and taloring will be a clownshow with extremely overpriced materials and pieces
just skip crafting and gear tru dungeons and heroics

all healers are good
it just happens druids shamans and priests are BETTER than hpals
it takes 5 casts of flash of light to do what a priest can with a single cast of circle of healing for example

All healers can’t be at the top, somebody’s got to be at the bottom. I cleared raids just fine with holy paladins back in the day, I don’t see why it couldn’t be done now.

As long as you’re not trying to get into a hardcore speed running guild, you’re gonna do just fine as a holy paladin.

Glitter away my little paladin, glitter away.

Paladins are the most powerful patch healer in the game, ie healing that fits between mobs swing times to stabilize HPs. Its powerful for MT healing and makes 1 Holy Paladin pretty desirable.

Paladins are very powerful single target healers in general, which is why they do pretty well in Tier 4/5 content.

If your trying to AE heal your using downranked HL…not FoL. Paladins can heal about 75% to 80% of the other healers while trying to raid heal.

Tier 6 caps are about 1450 HP/sec with FoL and just over 2000 HP/sec on HL…those values won’t include overheal values which will be higher while tank healing.

However a CoH’ing Priest and Chain healing Shaman can reach 2400 to 2500 HP/sec with far greater ease.

Paladins are fine for Heroics if you use your timers and your not grouped with idiots. However other classes have better pre buffer and response heals for when foolish people do foolish things.

Weird way to say Best tank healers in the game but ok.

Not really many fights that deal only ST dmg, anything a paladin can heal a shaman can do better

Did not help that they nerfed the mana return on crit, that was brutal. Then worse, they did not really give Holy paladin any good tools to heal with. They really needed a HoT or a bubble similar to PWS but did not get such a thing… All the other healers got some really great upgrades, but not Holy paladin.

You looking for pre heroic or pre bis?

Not really. Paladins by endgame still hit 40% crit with HL, 11% from talents, 5% from set bonus, 12%-13% from INT and buffs…then gear. Thats 28% efficiency from crit and 35% to 37% overall with the Libram.

Libram of Absolute Truth, from Lurker, adds 7%+ more efficiency on Rank 7 HL and over 9% more and Rank 6 HL.

Paladin single target healing is pretty powerful.

The key is if you bring a 2nd Holy Paladin, and the fight doesn’t require both Paladins to tank heal, then you can have them heal the Feral + Hunter + Hunter + Hunter + Rsham group. That takes 25% less healing to heal than the other group due to Imp LoP heal triggers.

Anything beyond 2 Holy Paladins is like climbing uphill for no reason…but every raid can use at least 1 in Tier 6.

Most raids want 3 paladins anyways. And while prot and ret are superior to holy in terms of power/utility both suffer from the same thing. You dont want more than one of them. So you’ll still see holy but its less to do with holy and more to do with the diminishing returns from the other specs.

Edit: But OP holy is still completely viable. Heals will be needed and reality is unlike dps you usually aren’t going to have your pick from the litter so to speak.

I mained holy for the first half of the original TBC. Healing heroics can be hard, especially if you have to move around (HMGT… Ugh.)

There are some crafted items that are nice. If you can afford them, get them. You might find yourself running the same heroic daily for weeks waiting for a drop. It’s more competitive in raids. In theory, gear gets replaced quickly, but in practice, assume the opposite could be the case.

As a paladin, yournmost unique ability amongst healers is the ability to take hits. I would personally shy away from paper plate… But that’s me. Some meta-sheep would tell you otherwise.

Note, the Opera Libram is amazing if your raid can afford to buff light, but most raids wont run enough paladins to use it.

Also, crafted gear IMO is optional since its very minor in difference, but some drops are rarer than others. Only profession I would suggest is enchanting for ring enchants, but LW is good for the drums and the belt/bracer. Being the healer that goes drums helps secure a raid spot, even with tinnitus.

Holy paladins are great tank healers. It’s boring as hell… But it works.
