So I know off the bat people will say “it’s melee!”. (In fact, that’s really appealing to me since FFXIV has literally no melee healer.)
But what I mean here is when I play AST in FFXIV I want
1: The ability to buff other players in my raid group DPS-wise.
2: Ability to heal “off of the global cooldown”. As in I don’t want to just stand there spamming heals on the global cooldown, I find that a snooze fest. I want to be in there in the action bashing faces.
Spamming heals over and over again sounds like raw agony. It’s why in FFXIV I don’t enjoy WHM nearly as much as AST or Scholar.
But more on buffs, like what else does the paladin bring to the table for them?
I saw Aura of Seasons on wowhead a few days ago and was immediately intrigued. Also the fact that they can extend it’s duration by 60% so like a full 48second 30% damage buff sounds mind numbingly good.
Is there a build focused on maximizing how much you buff allies damage?
For the two things you like most: Priest and Paladin.
Paladins (healer) don’t really get dps increases, except if you take Night Fae aura of seasons like you read about. They do have quite a few buffs that can keep your dps able to play the game (bop can remove some stuns/protect allies / freedom can make them immune to slows) - which these do translate into more dps.
They don’t really heal off the GCD, no healer does, unless you mean not having to heal all the time - then that’s paladin sure, they have instant cast spells they throw out in between melee swings.
Priest in contras is a major dps enabler. They are getting their own night fae blessings - and a spell that you can throw on ally giving them 25% haste for a looong time, which is just straight dps increase. In pvp they also have a spell that sprouts black angel wings to increase their party’s dps too. They are very dps-enablers. They also have a passive that translates damage they do into healing - unlike any other healer in WoW! They have to do damage in order to heal, which is polarizing to healers but general consensus is that it’s a fun and fact playstyle.
