Holy paladin damage nerf was poorly executed

This week holy paladin damage was reduced by a flat 10%. This was done mostly because meta-build holy paladins (that are talented around maximizing holy shock and tyr’s deliverance) had too much holy power and global cooldowns available and ended up spending it on shield of the righteous. The result was very high damage numbers for a healer.

The side effect of this resulted in the far less popular “damage” spec being nerfed further into the ground. The spec revolved around Avenging Crusader and veneration, two talents that rely completely on healing through damage dealt by the abilities judgment, crusader strike, and hammer of wrath. The spec was significantly inferior to the typical meta build, but the 10% flat damage reduction has pretty much made it unplayable in all higher content.

I ran that build for a while and it is a lot of fun. But i finally switched to the meta build because i cant justify sticking with a spec that is doing significantly less healing.

Everytime blizzard tries to nerf a meta spec they just end up nerfing non-meta builds even harder.

Yeah I’m not sure why they haven’t buffed AC healing yet…I think it is an oversight in their frenzied attempt to nerf the meta comp.

Everything seems balanced around the highest rated, most coordinated groups. Supposedly blessing of summer was OP but in pugs it never was. Even in the best case scenario summer would only be 12% of a dps damage for 30 seconds every 3 minutes. Hardly an earth shattering amount of damage.

The biggest thing they had to do was just remove Blessing of Seasons. It has never been fun, ever, and Summer is not particularly strong except in the hands of people synergizing with Power Infusion and Ebon Might on a combusting fire mage during a four-pack M+ pull, in which case it is ludicrously strong. I’m sure Blessing of Seasons is some blizzard dev’s baby, and I get it, it feels like it could be a cool fun ability if done right. But it’s never been done right. It’s horrible to press.

Also, they should change our one talent to have Judgement drop Consecration 100% of the time, but with a 10 second internal cooldown and accompanying removal of our normal Consecration button, like it is with Ret.

Not to mention that the PVP damage multipliers were also nerfed into the ground well before this. For a PVP player, this just rubs salt in the wound.

I was really sad the hpal changes came with the neutering of avenging crusader, which then got stomped multiple further times after the overall rework. It was the most fun I’ve had in the 6 seasons I’ve played, yeah we can do more hps now but I really preferred that playstyle

Losing zealot, 45s cd > 1m, duration reduction, no more 2x crusader strike charges, repeated aura damage nerfs, it’s been a bummer

Avenging Crusader is so bad now i am pretty sure it’s a HPS loss to even use it outside of Awakening.
