It has no maximum target cap, so its useful in situations where a large number of allies/enemies are stacked. For example you can use it as a filler heal for holy spec on bosses like xanesh where there is continuous damage if the whole raid is stacked and it will be very mana efficient (although prayer of healing will still usually have more healing per cast time at the cost of using more mana). It was also used quite a bit on mythic jaina in bod. Typically you’d need around 15 stacked allIes taking light continuous damage for it to be good on holy. Other than that it is only used for aoe dps to 3+ stacked enemies. Not great but we dont have the same tools as other classes for aoe damage.
Its also worth noting that it is an instant cast so it can be used for light aoe healing/dps during movement.
For disc its less useful outside of niche situations where you are focusing on damage to a large amount of enemies, but that is very rare because the atonement healing with nova does not scale well and you usually would rather be spreading purge the wicked around instead unless there target amount is very very high and you dont need much healing.
Nothing. Blizzard hasn’t bothered to properly incorporate this spell into the priest toolkit. It has lots of potential if they ever get around to it. Kinda same with renew, but at least it’s something to do while moving.
Noone cares about holy nova dude. It has a job and a niche, and thats great because theres much bigger issues to deal with than holy nova.
It was ( or felt ) a lot better in Legion when they re - added it.

Holy Nova was super broken in Legion (like group up dozens of mobs and AoE them down quickly broken) so they gimped it towards the end of that xpac again and it hasn’t recovered since.

I always thought of it as a old-raid spell. The thing you spam when you do old raids for xmob to one shot everything on the move, lol.
