Holy Mythic Healing Help:, The Coaglamation, City of Threads M+10

The Coaglamation

Last night, Coag was an absolute nightmare in a PUG. We attempted the fight about four times before I’d had enough. On the first and third tries, the battle seemed to drag on, and his health wasn’t dropping as quickly as expected. I checked, and he was only slightly below 50% health. Everything was going fine until this point.

Some notes:

1. First Attempt:

We started losing people. I believe one or two had their entire health bars filled with healing absorbs.

2. Second Attempt:

I grabbed a second orb about 10 yards from the tank, and Coag started blasting the group with Dark Pulse. I went into action using Power Infusion and Premonition, but it wasn’t enough. My entire health bar was covered in healing absorbs, and we were obliterated. I thought I might have grabbed too many orbs.

3. Third Attempt:

This is where the fight felt like it dragged on. I was healing on fumes—out of cooldowns, with just a sliver of mana left—and we wiped. Coag was just below 50% health.

4. Fourth Attempt:

This was when I noticed that, as a group, we all had our health bars filled with healing absorbs. As I grabbed the second orb, my entire health bar became covered in healing absorbs. Dark Pulse came quickly after I grabbed the second orb (barely turned around when it started, 12 yards from the tank), and the PUG was destroyed. I couldn’t stabilize; Dark Pulse was too fast, and even with my full set of Holy Words, I couldn’t remove the healing absorbs. Flash Heals, Instant Heals, Prayer of Mending, empowered Holy Word: Sanctify—nothing worked. It felt as if my gear was 554 iLvL.

Additionally, with health pots, health stone, Desperate Prayer, I barely got the healing absorbed off. That includes the healing from the Binding Healing talent.

I’ve healed Mythic+10 Mists of Tirna Scithe with no poison cleanse except for the tank and have been timing my Mythic+8s, so it’s not like I went in blind. I’m at around 626 iLvL with some BiS pieces and the 4-piece tier set.

Note:

I’m not sure if something was going on with the dungeons last night. I went to do a +8 Siege to help boost my morale. During the second boss, Lockwood, someone noticed that the bombardment timing was off. Both sets went off simultaneously, and only the tank and I survived. This happened about three times when we were caught off guard by how fast both sets of bombardments went out. After we survived, we completed the dungeon, but it was on everyone’s mind.

Letting orbs go through only heals the boss. It doesn’t actually do extra damage to group, not directly at least.

As a holy priest, your job is actually to plant your feet and heal off the healing absorb on dps and tanks as they are the ones who should be running around to pick orbs.

Prechannel Divine Hymn when boss is about to hit full energy(like around the 93-95 mark depending on your haste), then hit Halo or Piety and blast your holy words depending on whether you are Archon or Oracle right when Dark Pulse actually fires off. Ideally your group also uses small personals to help smooth the damage spike.

The second Dark Pulse is where you want to Hope to reset your group’s personal defensives, then pray they actually use them. Use Apotheosis here, and Halo if you are Archon since it’s definitely back up in time.

At the +10 level, you should only see 2 Dark Pulses, 1 if your dps is doing well.

We had 3-4 Dark Palsess go off in round 3, I believe. I’d like to clarify that I also used Piety ; this is what I was referring to when I mentioned “instant empowered heals” after two Flash Heals . I’m just surprised that even with all my cooldowns, I couldn’t power through the healing absorb.

On the topic of personal cooldowns, I think I noticed the Destruction Warlock using a Healthstone. My other class that I play in +10s is a Demonology Warlock. When I empower my Healthstone on my Warlock, I can get rid of the healing absorb. I didn’t see this with the Destruction Warlock; moreover, on two occasions, the Destruction Warlock died first.

I’m wondering if there was a bug in the mechanic. When the second orbs came out, the boss almost immediately went into Dark Pulse. At one point, we didn’t even have a chance to group up when Dark Pulse came.

Something felt off with having our health bars completely swallowed up by healing absorbs. Granted, this was my first +10 City of Threads as a Holy Priest . However, I’ve done this enough times on my Demonology Warlock, and I definitely paid attention to the healing profile of the dungeon—planning how I would heal things in the back of my mind while playing my Warlock for +10. So it’s interesting you mention that as a healer I shouldn’t grab orbs. I must have missed healers not grabbing one or two orbs during that fight when I did them on my Demonology Warlock.

You are playing a holy priest, not something mobile like a shaman that can just pop Spiritwalker’s Grace and heal while picking orbs on the fly. You are quite literally forced to stand still in order to do the majority of your healing.

Can’t really help by being Oracle as I play Archon. Also idk your talents but I like to play with DW (Divine Word) too as an extra 1min healing cooldown

  • Dps should focus on orbs, but you can help if you really feel comfortable by moving and help with that. I do it whenever I feel I can. The healer job here is more about getting rid of those absorbs healing.
  • Remember boss do the big dmg aoe when it hits 100 energy
  • Halo + DW should be enough to get you through 1st pulse dmg
  • Apotheosis + Pre Divine hymn should be enough through 2nd pulse
  • Halo + DW for 3rd pulse
  • repeat… until boss is dead

Some other tips:

  • Use PI as a healing boost if needed, if not just dps cooldown for a teammate.
  • Make sure to have a healing potion for you as we have almost no defensives at all.
  • GS is another “healing cooldown” So use it wisely but don’t be too conservative about it, you have it every 1 min most of the time. Usually you will be the target for it.

Ask everyone to help rotate personals and raid defensive if possible during the pulse…

If you have immunity classes perhaps ask them to pop the majority of the bubbles when their immunity is up.

Ask them to self-heal if they have a heal-absorb will help you too…

Communicating ahead of time (before the key even starts) probably helps…

With the current Blizzard healer tuning, every healer specs can achieve 1m+ hps throughput easily. But even with a godly healer, it will still be rough if the other teammates are not pressing their defensive or utilities to help the healer out while failing mechs.

It’s just about other teammates helping you out too…

You want all the absorbs gone before the pulse starts. If you have to heal off absorbs while that damage is happening then you’re going to lose people.

Just plant and blast people with healing to get the absorbs off asap. The pulse hurts a lot, but if people are topped and clear of absorbs and using personals then it’s very survivable.

Our group always uses hero on this boss too. I agree with those above; get that heal absorb off asap. I play archon so my healing advice wouldn’t work that well for you, just rotate CDs and get the heal absorb off before pulsing aoe.

This boss is awful. Hopefully your next go you are able to show it who is boss! (You)

The biggest issue for H Priest on this is that the very first Dark Pulse is just basically seconds after the last set of absorbs are collected by the players. You just need to have everyone use a defensive or heal potions or group wide defensives on the first one for sure.

The second and third dark pulses (if you even make it to those) are staggered like 30 seconds by the time the absorbs are collected and the next Dark Pulse happens so you have basically a lot of breathing room to get rid of the absorbs here. Holy basically shines here. It just doesn’t shine on the very first one.

  • Grab 1-2 orbs and use desperate prayer to instant cleanse, then you can plant feet and heal.
  • Use proper healing rotation, keeping PoM up, and using your lightweaver stacks for max efficiency. Make sure absorbs are off and group is topped before AOE pulse goes out.
  • During the Pulse have AT LEAST Halo up, maybe Divine Hymn a few seconds before Pulse to ramp the healing, or use Apotheosis. In general though, your group should be using defensives.
  • To survive yourself, cast fade w/ 10% dmg reduction talent + Flash Heal with 10% damage reduction and pre-shield yourself. This will allow you to ignore yourself and heal someone else in trouple.
  • Try to use Trail of Light to the max by not healing the same player twice. Weave in holy words to get max value from Pontifex and Resonant Words.
  • Group should be stacked, so holy Nova at max stacks if you took Rhapsody.

All in all it’s not that bad. I just healed a +13 CoT with off meta DPS and we cooked that fight ez pz. Biggest issue I think Holy Priest will have is not using proper rotation of healing and not trusting their talent choices to do their job.

What’s your gameplan for last boss? super curious
I feel like Trail of Light really does carry a lot of these rot damage sections

The game plan is really the same. When boss does web grip or stomps people need to be mostly topped. The rot damage on last boss isn’t that bad. Can usually just heal through it generically, at least at a +13 level. Timing CDs to top everyone before the big burst damage is what I do. Last boss really isn’t a healing check IMO.

Having a purple murloc onesie is good for about 250k hps as well.

Interesting that you mention Divine Hymn. That is not in my current build. I use the Mythic+ Oracle build from Wowhead.

Anything in particular you forgo to get Divine Hymn?

I am thinking either Divine Service or Burning Vehemence. It would be nice to have Divine Hymn.

ps. Thank you everyone for the advice.

pps. Tried healing it again as holy. I just could not do it, even with pre-divine hymn. I asked the group for help on the first pulse since the second wipe came sooner. They just left pissed off. “its… the first pulse”.

If you don’t take Hymn, the ONLY thing you’re giving up is 1 single point into increased healing from mastery. The stun for chastise isn’t needed, Afterlife isn’t bad but also not needed, and you’re not going to take PoH, making Hymn your only choice. Divine Hymn is decent if you pre-Renew/PoM the team into flash heal+fade+ shield on yourself and use the [Creeping Coagulum] trinket. The burst heal from the trinket will keep people alive since the biggest downfall of Hymn is that it heals too weak and too slow. IMO it needs the PvP talent baked into it for 5 man content to make it viable.

In terms of Oracle build, it’s just less mana efficient and does less healing. Insight is nice to PoM spam, which does a ton of burst healing if you take all your PoM talents, but outside that short window you’re weak again. Not having bigger Flash of Light healing hurts a lot in spot healing. Piety is good and can make stacked with Insight, but I think it’s better to line it up with something else if you can, like Divine Hymn, since Hymn tends to be slow and weak without buffs. Solace is a nice shield to stop a tank buster or even keep yourself alive on a lethal hit like first boss of Necrotic. Clairvoyance is busted and very nice to pop, but you don’t get it very often making the Oracle pretty sad.

Archon has consistent massive and passive healing + damage. The key is more DPS while still healing. I can do nearly 2 mil DPS and HPS simultaneously, as where an Oracle simply cannot do that. Another thing you lose is double fear which is small, but a nice stop to weave into keys. You can Psychic Scream into another class doing another short stop after 2 seconds, and then your 2nd Scream goes off making it effectively 6 seconds of free stops. Most auto hits and casts will not go off freeing you up to just do damage on big pulls. Im +14 keys not having to heal goes a long way, and sometimes things will just kill people if you’re not on top of pre-shielding and topping players focused by a mob simply doing a ranged auto attack.

Ignore the WoWhead build: https://www.archon.gg/wow/builds/holy/priest/mythic-plus/talents/10/all-dungeons/this-week

66.4% of the Holy Priests timing high keys are Archon. You can run a Lightweaver or Divine Word build.

Thank you!

Had my Sunday morning coffee and I’m ready to try again. (Or go drinking if it all goes bad.)

ps.

I tried out their Archon build in a Heroic Dungeon just to get a feel for the build. Next, I did a +10 Mists. Note that Mists normally does not give me problems. At first I thought it felt the same then…

  1. I noticed the damage I was outputting.

I was like okay it does damage. That’s a difference then…

  1. I’ve been healing this and haven’t had to use any Holy Words.

One thing that bothers me though is their recommended build for 7 - 12 is basically the same as mine when it was all struggle bus on Dawn/CoT. So what am I doing wrong there… Damage though felt like on another level.

One caveat is the group I had. They seemed to know what they were doing . Will report back as I do a few more 10s.

Archon is better than Oracle for a number of reasons.

  • Halo allows you to passively deal damage in situations where you need to also focus on healing. Also, Halo’s pulsing damage does more damage than Oracle can dish out on pulls of 6+ mobs.
  • Halo’s passive healing and the 4 free SoL procs (which is 80+ in a dungeon) makes you far more mana efficient then Oracle because you need to cast less heals to top the group off.
  • Archon resets Holy Words faster due to the bonus from SoL.
  • Halo is on a flat 1 minute cd unlike Premonition which has to rotate through buffs.
  • Apotheosis + Halo is a really strong combo because you can reset your Holy Words fast w/ the free SoLs and you also get a +10% healing bonus during Apo.

What is Archon worse at?

  • Archon does -30% less single target damage than Oracle and is worse at killing world mobs. Oracle is better for leveling because you’re only fighting things 1 at a time usually.
  • Archon has no tank defensive and GS is -2s shorter then Oracle.
  • Archon doesn’t get the same +30% self-healing taken bonus as Oracle.
  • Piety is stronger than Archon Halo if you utilize it properly.
  • Oracle can double dispel back-to-back on the last boss in Siege w/ Insight.
