Holinka trying to justify 300+ wins to cap

watching him talk himself in circles while he uses the term “quickly” gear up later in the season. he acted surprised when ven asked about a catch up. this is the guy in charge of pvp btw. and when asked about soulbind defensive traits we have and the ones coming in 9.1 might be too much he said “yea im worried about them” . So our assumptions are now proven correct, pvp devs have 0 impact on 99% of decisions in the game

When he said, “It can be kinda nice to work through this giant Conquest bar” I died inside. Boy earning gear vs people that are already geared isn’t what anyone would call fun.

hes the healer for my dungeon grind grp once ive used him up and im 70 ill firmly scold him before casting him aside

lol thought the same thing but he may have been a little confused by the question or something at least that’s what I’m hoping.

I think the gearing process is fun depending on the amount of time it takes. Back in the day when you could run a bunch of bg’s and it took 2-3 weeks of bg’s to get fully geared it felt really good. You start off garbage and with each piece you can feel yourself getting stronger and stronger and living longer and longer. It felt how an RPG is supposed to feel. Now those same type of people have to farm literal months for gear that is a tier under a lot of the people they are competing against.

This is incorrect. He is the lead combat designer now. He was the lead developer before he left in 2017 and returned in…2018?

Basically he doesn’t have the same decision making power he once did. Which explains quite a bit about why PvP has become the way it is.

he didn’t really act surprised. he did try to justify it, but thats because loot from everything in the game is slow. blizzard does NOT want fast gearing in any part of the game right now to bypass that so pvp is purposely designed to be something you do over the course of a season (along with everything else.) its crappy and i dont agree with it but thats what he’s told by higher ups so thats what he has to say in an interview.

Maybe I misinterpreted what he meant but what I took from that is they are concerned about them and plan on keeping an eye on them for PvP

I took it as a positive like they are open to nerfing them for PvP like they did with the defensive passives of Azerite gear in bfa

the wait and see is the major problem with blizz and the pvp in recent years. the wait and see turns into mages 1 shotting people for 2 months and hpal being the only healer for 3 months and oh we are in a patch we cant make any major changes until next patch so if your spec sucks come back in 6-10 months and there is a small chance its better

I agree I’d rather them just throw out a big preemptive nerf like they did with raid gear and slowly buff them up if the nerfs are too heavy

But it was at least nice to hear they’re not oblivious to the potential problem

incorrect, actually. He’s lead combat developer. Not necessarily pvp dev, but he oversees how classes interact with each other.

It’s as if he’s trying to get players to switch to TBC

I think u grossly underestimate how many people just AFK’d AVs until their gear was in a competitive state.

irreconcilable difference. I may have been more inclined to the power progression back around TBC or so but at least Cata and onwards I personally saw it as a massive inconvenience. MoP and WoD felt like the best gear progression systems available but Legion templates were just the best for accesibility and engagement in pvp without any serious grind at all (especially post artifact power nerf).
