Hold off on doing keys today (inc DDOS due to onlyfangs raid)

Onlyfangs is attempting another raid and Soda is streaming it. Their past few raids have been a target for DDOSing which affects all of blizzards servers and not just hardcore so if youre in a key at the time of the attack its going to get bricked.

I am fine if I can’t play due to DDOS attacks if it means streamer scum gets to suffer.

OnlyFangs raids get DDOS’d, COD release got DDOS’d… Man, it’s just bad over at MicroBlizz.

Sheesh, tell us how you really feel!

No but like, do you feel that way about anyone who streams? Only certain ā€˜types’ of streamers? And where’d those feelings come from? :open_mouth:

Definitely feels like it comes from somewhere. I’m not exactly a fan of stream culture as it’s 50% simping and 50% parasocial relationships, but if you like watching people do something on a camera and throwing money at them for their ā€œcontentā€, go for it I guess.

Eh. I just watch SoulsoBreezy. Because it’s chill. He’s not pushing anything. He just gives info and chats with people about what they like.

I don’t throw money at anyone. lol

I don’t watch streamers myself, but I don’t really see it much different than other forms of entertainment. Some people enjoy it, some don’t. Some people enjoy reality TV, some don’t. Same goes for reading books, sports, and a ton of other hobbies.

I mean, I pop in on a few people just to see what they are up to and occasionally throw a message at them to pick their brain, and a healthy version of watching is fine.

The problem is that the normie viewer tends to just get obsessed with the parasocial relationship that it creates. It’s not exactly the most healthy form of content viewing for people without self restraint, which seems to be an abnormal amount of people with that issue anymore.

Again, it’s their money I guess. It just could go to much better places imo, but if it makes them happy, I’m not here to judge until it becomes a detriment to how they live.

I somewhat get that. Is why mostly I just watch my friends stream if they choose to.

I do think there are exceptions ofc, HazelNutty is pretty wholesome IMO and one of the two streamers that made WoW look pretty cool to me.

Ah, see, I don’t know these things. I just assumed people were rational and didn’t get obsessed like this. But I forget that you and are probably the types to be considered a bit on the side of abnormal these days, since it seems we basically do the same thing when it comes to occasional stream watching and just asking a question from time to time. :slightly_smiling_face:

As with anything, sure. For example, I was able to watch PirateSoftware as he generally has good dev advice, up until the point of realizing he doesn’t even follow his own advice with his projects.

Reasoning for anyone curious:

He went as far as starting a publishing wing of his company recently, but still can’t wrap up a game he has quite literally released and is charging people for, and constantly advertises, for the last 7 years. It’s gotten to almost Yandere sim levels of bad outlook with him acting like the finished version is just around the corner, but with zero proof in sight. It was a huge disappointment, and his antics in Classic only doubled down on the problem for me.

I wish people were, but I’ve been taught the lesson in the last few years that most people are not rational and lack self control. A large portion of the population operates entirely on emotional reactions, and logical reasoning just isn’t used in their decision making, especially with stuff like streamers, which their brains just don’t see as a problem to throw money at as it’s their entertainment.

It’s totally fine in moderation, but a lot of people take it way too far. Especially the simp-stream enjoyers, I’ve seen people drop a few thousand dollars on them just to try and get their attention. It’s sad to watch.

I got a story for you.

Welsh couple does a duo stream of their WoW gameplay. Seems wholesome and they’re easy to talk to. Community forms and we do fun achievements ingame.

A few months go by and personality wise they change. They’ll ask about what they want to have ā€˜ponder on it’ and people are throwing money for donation messages to get their suggestion through. Most people in their guild only want to do content with them. They are very much ā€˜baiting’ their audience in money giving at this point and so I leave.

Things I seen:

  • money given for food
  • Bit wars (twitch donation) to try and out ā€˜bit’ someone else in stream
  • messages of like ā€˜I’m so glad to have you as friends’ which in my observation are only reciprocated after a donation/attention.

I don’t think it starts with bad intentions but if you’re attractive and relatively social the power can sometimes go to the head of both the streamer and their captive audience.

I saw the change and it’s sad that it looks like only too 1/2 a year to happen to them.
