Hold-and-release Empowered abilities not working in macros

Creating even a simple /cast macro without conditionals like

/cast Fire Breath

uses Press and Tap mode rather than the Hold and Release mode that is selected in the interface options.

I tried switching the setting to Press and Tap and back to Hold and Release again; I tried relogging, reloading, no addons. I am using a keyboard hotkey for this as well.

I posted about this (generally) yesterday, but my issue is that after I tried to make a macro with the empowered spells (while using press and tap mode), it forced all my spells to grey out on the action bar and some became unlearned and unusable in the process.

Yeah I searched and saw a few threads with a few issues with macros and empowered abilities. Some of them mentioned what I am reporting here but then were derailed into other related bugs. That’s why I made my own thread, to separate the issues.

Good call. I am just hoping to add some context from my experience to other threads in case it helps isolate the cause of the issue. It’s definitely annoying and a bit odd. I initially discovered this because I wanted to do a help/harm macro for the empowered cone fire and cone heal. It works for all other spells.

Have you tried using command /console empowerTapControls 0 to reset the spell input back to Hold & Release?

Been having a lot of issues with Empowered Abilities. In addition to the rest of my abilities spontaneously “greying out” when I cast an EP, a lot of the time they continue charging even though I release right away for the quick rank 1 cast. This delays my rotation for 1 or more seconds and is very disruptive. And annoying.

Hold and release is still not working if the empowered spell is in any kind of macro, as of Dragonflight release.

Just tried that. Still doesn’t work.

same issue here. The macro-ed empowered spells are causing two bugs on - Greying out the spells and saying it’s unlearned - and empowered spells changing into tap release mechanism rather than a holding release mechanism.

I agree with what Amenvia said about the two bugs. I’m experiencing both as well.

One thing I did find is changing zones that forces a loading screen causes the macro to start working. For example, when I change to Preservation spec which has macros for the empowered spells, the empowered spells are grayed out. However if I use a portal to org, the macros start working until I swap specs again.
