Who’s excited?
Watching it tonight with my 13 year old cousin. Last Halloween we watched the first one together. Having been a fan of the original for almost 30 years, I hope it doesn’t disappoint.

I really liked the first one and this has been getting good reviews. Looking forward to checking it out.
I’m thrilled that Disney finally made a sequel to the first Hocus Pocus movie finally after all of these years! I’ve heard great reviews about the new Hocus Pocus 2, And I do plan on seeing it at the theatre sometime this month!
Likely going to take a friend with me! Best thing of all is I’ll be able to get in and get my snacks for FREE. Gotta love being a Scene+ member here in Canada.
I thought they wouldn’t make a sequel because the 3 witches… ya know died.
Sorry to disappoint, it isn’t in theater. Disney+ only.
Virgins lighting a Black Candle a second time brought them back.
Thackery is still dead.
The Witches’ presence resurrects the Zombie though. And their death sends him back to the grave.
Ok I will admit it was funny and cute…they did a good job
I really didn’t like this movie and after watching it, have decided to instead watch the original to cleanse my palette.
I had a lot of problems with the actual story, but my biggest issue was…
Okay, the first Hocus Pocus came out in 1993, right. They mention this a few times in the movie. So people that saw that movie are adults now. They’re in their late 20’s, early 30’s, 40’s, etc. But Hocus Pocus 2 obviously leans super hard into being really just a kids’ movie. There’s not a lot of appeal for an adult. The humor is all very kid-friendly.
Why though? Now, there’s nothing wrong with a family movie that has humor for kids and also humor for adults. I think that’s a lot of what makes the first movie, and just older family movies in general, so good. You enjoyed them so much as a kid, because of those aspects of it, but you also enjoyed them as an adult, for all the little bits and pieces you didn’t quite get as a kid.
This movie has none of those qualities. Which is fine, it can be just a kids’ movie. But this is where I take issue. If it’s just for kids, why pick an IP like Hocus Pocus, where the only people who remember the first movie are adults?
As the OP said in their post…
So in that situation, that makes sense. A kid can go back and watch the original to better contextualize the new one, but it seems like a very specific and niche audience.
All that aside, I didn’t care for the movie at all. I won’t get into specifics, but it wasn’t my type of movie. I much prefer the original. I’m glad that it exists to be enjoyed as it was and I’m not just reminded of it by this new movie as a nostalgia-grab.
That being said, I did like the 3 witches’ performances. They all still got it, especially Kathy Najimy. She still cracks me up so often in this movie, just like the original. The 3 of them didn’t miss too many beats.
Oh. No worries there! I’ve got a subscription to Disney+. So I’ll watch it here in the near future with some friends I’ll invite on over to my place!
I also got a subscription to Amazon Prime and Netflix! Mostly because each of those (3) streaming services have different selections to watch!
I saw it on D+ it was pretty good
It was so bad. They tried really hard to cater to nostalgia but failed at it.
