Hobart Grapplehammer Apparently Created One Of The 8.2 Allied Races

Looking up info on the GilGoblins, I was surprised that they were created by a random Bildgewater tinker very recently. For how widespread they are, and being one of the 2 main races that join us in 8.2, they haven’t been around all that long. Goblins must breed really really REALLY fast.

Also, I wonder if this lore point will still be true in 8.2: “their brainpower had to be reduced to make room for the gills. Only animalistic greed is left”.

Excuse me but what.

They seem to be as intelligent as anyone else as of 8.2

Not sure if it’s breeding as much as a bunch of goblins got altered, like the void elves.

Intelligence is not something azerothians have, a 5 year would know how to deal with nzoth and how to solve things but millenia old elves and powerful masters of the arcane cannot even comprehend!

Today I learned goblin brains are located behind their throats.

Don’t call them an Allied Race. They ain’t ****.

It’s been mentioned before that Goblins reproduce at a fast pace. Off the top of my head, a Gnome in Stonetalon specifically says they breed like rabbits. I assume it helps offset the huge number of them that accidentally blow themselves up.

I don’t know about the ones in Nazjatar, but the Gilblins in other zones don’t seem advanced in technology, so I guess that would remove a major check against their reproductive rate. It’s probably how they spread everywhere in such a short amount of time.

If they breed fast, it stands to reason that brainpower’s possibly seen an uptick through natural selection.

At least that’s how I’m gonna explain it for myself.

That does make some sense. It’s like an evolutionary hyperbolic time chamber but I can accept this.

Hobgoblins are also mutated Goblins. They become very strong at the cost of much of their itelligence and longevity.

They also have acidic sweat! Seriously, few things in Warcraft are more horrific than HobGoblins.

As for the GilGoblins … we’ll see. I think (oddly) the thing most concerning to me about them potentially joining the Horde is not WHAT they are, but WHO might be responsible for recruiting them. Gallywix … is a monster. He is single handedly responsible for more Goblin deaths than the Alliance by this point; and its pretty much canon that MOST Goblins of intellect or talent despise him (not just for who he is, but what he has turned the Goblin race into).

The idea that THIS GUY could be who recruits the Gils into the Horde genuinely concerns me (not just because of his exploitative nature, but the idea that he might actually see Dumber Water Goblins and Sea Giants as a way to ensure we Gobs NEVER get a racial leader worth following). Nothing like bigger, dumber, and faster reproducing mooks to act as meatshields; and honestly I’d feel a WHOLE lot more comfortable if it was someone like Gazlowe or Grapplehammer that were outsourced to recruit them.

Do you think they’d view Grapplehammer as a father figure or a God?

We’ll see wont we lol!

Even if they breed fast, they shouldn’t be adults.

My guess is that their origin will be altered.

Maybe the Kelfin already existed, and Gilgoblins are Grapplehammer’s hamfisted attempted to make new ones out of Goblins.

You usually type in some cryptic garble of nonsense but this is more difficult than discerning a Blingtron encryption!

Surely at least some of them would resent him playing mad scientist and stripping away their intelligence. It is a pretty douchey thing to do.

Also, I wonder if this lore point will still be true in 8.2: “their brainpower had to be reduced to make room for the gills. Only animalistic greed is left”.

Gilgoblins are capable of learning and teaching all kinds of professions like these. Now these Gilgoblins had to have learned all of this themselves because the Naga wouldn’t teach them this stuff and they have been isolated from mainstream society.

My guess is that their origin will be altered.

Maybe the Kelfin already existed, and Gilgoblins are Grapplehammer’s hamfisted attempted to make new ones out of Goblins.

This is possibly a good point. Maybe Hobart was simply trying to make clones of an existing race? These ones may have unique origins.

What are you talking about? He’s a goblin’s goblin. Most goblins would sell their own mothers and trade their lives for profits. The only reason goblins haven’t overrun Azeroth is how comically high their death count is. If anything a smarter goblin would accept that the cost of business is more than affordable considering how quick you can produce children.

In real life my Grandma jokes that the reason she had so many kids is because she thought half wouldn’t make it to adulthood. It’s the same mentality in most of the developing world. You have 10-12 kids expecting 2-4 to make it to adulthood and if you’re lucky one of those surviving kids makes it big and you can reap what you’ve sowed.

So stop with this goblins have a moral compass. Most don’t nor lore wise would the majority want a benevolent leader. That goes against a goblin’s instinct for capitalistic benefit. Sure it’s inhuman. but that’s the point. They ain’t humans!
