I’ve never played a rogue during vanilla. Got one to max during TBC and did SSC on him and my mage. Greatly enjoy both.
I like mage but I’m concerned about getting bored with it due to frostbolt spam for half of the vanilla life cycle.
Rogues intrigue me and I’ve always wanted to try one at 60.
What’s the gear competition like for rogues and mages? Similar or will one have better chances at gear over the other?
What about leveling?
There is serious competition for both classes regarding gear, but from what you’ve said, it sounds like you’d regret it not to level a rogue first. It’s a blast in vanilla too, you cant go wrong. Being able to stealth while levelling on a pvp server will save you many hours of frustration. Being able to choose your encounters this way is priceless during your first levelling experience in my opinion.

I’d pick rogue first for a few reasons:
-If choosing a PVP server you can have fun ganking and fighting as you level
-Gear competition shouldn’t be too bad since hunters are a bit iffy in their playability and druids aren’t popular/as viable
-There is actually quite a bit that you can solo farm in end game for bosses/loot
I plan on rolling both a mage and a rogue. I love the play style of both, however, mage will be easier to level and be a good income source for the mage when he levels. So i’m going rogue first.
Rogue sounds fun. I think I’ll main a rogue and see how it goes.
Appreciate the advise and such
You play a rogue yet you misspell it.
I figured it was authentic to vanilla
lol no I just got off work and was exhausted. Maybe red looks good on me. My tmog proves it does!

That’s a good point. By now, I think Blizzard should change the spelling for this class’ name.
At 60 both are fun. I would say that Mages have the edge in battlegrounds as you can nuke from the back and have AOE spells. I had a 60 rogue during classic and it was difficult at times to get in and get out without someone tagging you (unless you use CDs).
Rogues excel at world PVP but so do mages. Since I had both at level 60 and carried the mage over to BC I would give the edge to the mage. They are easier to level as you can make your own food and water. Plus you can teleport to any city and set your hearthstone to where you are questing.
Ultimately it comes down to playstyle and you should play what you enjoy! Both of the classes are fun, just in different ways.
I love the mage class except for the horrible RNG version it is in bfa now with frost.
I’ve always enjoyed the class but spamming frostbolt for 2 raids doesn’t sound fun. Who knows. I could enjoy the simplicity of it after playing the current version which feels like a spammy arcade game.
i so agree with this and it is what I will be doing also.
