Hirukon and how it demonstrates two types of people

I don’t know if its the same on all servers, but I’ve noticed a pattern with regard to how people do the activation of Hirukon in Zerith Mortis, and its an interesting observation of human nature.

The two main approaches are:

  1. Announced it to the zone and wait a couple of minutes for people to arrive so they get a chance at the mount, or

  2. Make no announcement at all, just activate it so that only those nearby really have any chance.

The second approach is one of personal interest, I think, in that these people are getting the mount for themselves and that’s all that matters. The first is those who are happy to give others a chance as well as themselves getting it.

I have no idea of the percentages of one over the other since Im not on 24/7. All I know is Im grateful for those who do announce it, as its a small act of consideration that hurts no one. As for the second, well, I guess this world has fostered an egocentric attitude even in games like WoW.

Im sure some will say its always been this way and thats not really my point. Im not sure what my point is, other than I would certainly like to see more of the No. 1’s than the No. 2’s playing around me.

you left off

  1. Thinks other people somehow owe them something, and will judge them poorly if they don’t play the game exactly how they think they should.

like… seriously here? I spent 2500 casts trying to fish up the lure. I gave up and spent 150k of my gold to get it. I’m going to go out there, pop the lure, fish up the boss however the heck I see fit.

I mean… sure, go ahead and feel free to finger wag at me because I didn’t spend 5 minutes doing zone announcments on when I was going to use my lure. If it makes you feel better. :woman_shrugging:

If you fish up the goop or buy the goop off the AH like I did then make the lure you can fish it up yourself and instantly get the mount and never have to worry about the rare again since the others are so much easier to catch/get.

After that point catch it if you can for say the patterns weekly but then there’s zero stress whether you miss it or not.

You know, there’s nothing wrong with decency.

of course not.

but there is something wrong with thinking poorly of a person who goes out and summons the rare, just because he didn’t do it in the manner in which someone prefers.

You should have seen earlier on our server in the general chat when I was on my Void Elf Warlock like omfg, the rage of some people when someone doesn’t call out they are summoning that rare and the swear words, it was like wow chill dude.

You are not entitled to my labor. You even making the slightest insinuation that my work and efforts are entitled to you in the least (through your clear passive agressiveness in this post) makes you clearly in the wrong here.

Make a long and well mannered sounding post all you want, you are bullying people into acting the way you want and you need to be called out for it.

If I want to announce that I am summoning a boss I farmed the ability to summon that is exclusively my prerogative and you get literally no say in it whatsoever.

I find this is usually the opposite faction summoning it when this happens. So there’s no way to announce it.

Umm… it’s a rare elite. It’s not like you’re bringing it down all on your own and no one else can tag it. Why would you get this hostile over a rare summon? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

There’s nothing wrong with wanting people to announce when it’s summoned. You’re not getting more loot if less people show up or something.

What an absolutely bizarre reply…

Sure, its your goop, you gold, whatever. But does it actually diminish your game if you just talk in zone and say you are doing the cast and come on down and join the fun?

Im sorry if my mild desire for people to be more fun and sharing offends you.

This is by far the most common approach. Most people are cool.

It doesn’t. What offends me is the implication that if someone doesn’t do what you want them to, they’re egocentric and selfish.

If I ever manage to fish up the goop and then craft the lure, I will announce that I am pulling the rare and be strutting around entering hero pose while I wait :stuck_out_tongue:

There was a post here yesterday, I think, talking nasty about people who show off rare mounts.

Can’t please everyone I guess lol

Oh man, when I get a nice (not even rare) mount I prance around on it and if someone else is around with it, I bow and wave like a loon. I have fun in my game.

Yes, some people are generous and some people are selfish but there might be a third group: people like me who don’t know you can call out to the whole zone and certainly not how.

type /1 then your message. You can probably /yell then message as well.

it took me a while and I often still just shout out to myself and not the zone lol

It’s crazy because in BFA I got the addon that announces when a rare is pulled. Got yelled at by someone because the rare was announced and other people killed it.

People will be mad even if it’s announced. When they could wait around the rare they need most or do what is necessary to summon it.

If I ever get the goop (3300+ attempts so far) I’ll make a group on group finder. But I won’t be one of those that just sits their and say 2 mins till summon then waits 10 mins. From the moment I get the lure I will set a timer for 5 mins and once it’s done I fish it up
