No. I do not mean rap and no I do not mean whatever absolute trash has been released in the past 15 years (mumble rap, auto-tune, etc)

Tom Macdonald is pretty neat. Not sure of difference between hip-hop and rap these days tbh.

As a hip hop head, rap and hip hop are the same thing when it comes to inclusive music styles.
Rap also can function as a verb, but musically they are the same genre.

Oh my GOD I had forgotten about Ben Harper. His double disc album I got for free from a record store like almost 2 decades ago I guess. Was a green and red disc I think. Anyways, it had this song and many other, very, very amazing songs. One of my favorite artists at that time. Thanks for letting me remember this!
To the OP. I listen to Trip Hop if that counts. Massive Attack ftw, but I can’t post anything.
To the second poster I would say Hip Hops tends to be more light hearted or discusses serious issues, along with a more mellow beat and Rap essentially talks about absolutely nothing in general, uplifts crime a lot for some reason, and degrades women, and drugs, and gangs, and the beats generally harsh and angry and well, dumb. I would say Rap is Hip Hops younger, dumber cousin who tries to get people to like him by being crude, talking about how hes the greatest, bragging about his bling, money, grills, rims, cars, how many women hes slept with, how many drugs hes done, and when he cant sing he autotunes,hes trying way, way too hard. Hip Hop knows hes cool, and so he can talk about other things or joke around a bit. He discusses life instead, talks about experiences, some maybe drug related, but its almost always the experience, not bragging about it. This isn’t always a rule, but its the general trend ive found.
What about Lo-Fi Hip-hop?
I love me some metal, but damn… Sometimes you just gotta rock the ol’ school Dre and Tupac!
