I am not here to complain about anything but as a Hindu, I see many examples of WoW lore being inspired from Hinduism.
The race Naga, is a literal term for half-human serpents in Hinduism. They have been worshipped for thousands of years. A female Naga is called Nagini or Nagi. Even Vishnu is portrayed with a 7 headed snake.
Legion also had Hinduism inspired creatures (Shivarra) which are basically inspired from the Hindu goddess Kali.
In WoD, there was Arakkoa who use Chakrams as weapon, which are considered holy in Hinduism.
I wish I had four arms, I’d be so good at the Piano. Please play piano if any of you ascend to a state where you get four arms, and send me the video, I bet it would be beautiful but a lot of work.
I also love that deity who has 1000 eyes to see all of humanity’s struggles and 1000 hands to help them, but I think that’s buddhism. Although, I do wonder if this is sustainable with a population of 8 billion. Also, I think the eyes are not detached from their body so I don’t see the benefit of 1000 over 8 eyes or so, each 45 degrees apart around the head.
Every religion is mythology play-doh, the only difference is that we were not raised in China/Korea for Buddhism, India/Nepal for Hinduism, or the Middle East for Islam. Christianity is all we know in the western world and that is as much of a myth as every other religion in the world.
100% I love it when things in games are inspired by RL stuff.
My RL name is based on Shiva and I saw so many examples of Hindu gods and other names being used in FFXIV (Shiva, Ravana, Lakshmi). Being South Asian it’s cool to see.
Is good to see many subtle references and cultural connections in this game too.
Shivarra are basically inspired by Shiva’s spouses Durga.
Mata when used by trolls to worship female goddesses is exact the same terminology we use.
I always found it amusing when certain anime games and series have Catholicism inspired themes and the priests are some sort of sorcerer… and I get it, they really do look like sorcerers with their fancy robes and bling.
Edit: Forgot they also have giant bible tomes that look like spellbooks too.
I’m no lore nut but the base idea of the game is Lovecraftian I believe.
But like all good stories it’s good to pull from what you know, and what people might find familiar. When you look at all the myths ( or religions ) in the world many are just copies of copies of much older stories.
