WoW started to make my fans run a lot so I got concerned. When I close WoW it still says over 60% memory but showing it as my battlenet app. If I close the app, it then says World of Warcraft is using all that memory and I have to “end task” to make it go away/get my PC back down to it’s regular sitting 14% memory.
So basically whenever I play WoW now, I have to close WoW, close my Battlenet App, then End Task on WoW from task manager.
Issue for me started today - after there was a patch.

Was experiencing similar after the update two days ago; higher than usual CPU usage (retail tends to sit at around 5~7% for me when idle, but it was up to 10+% even when just sitting around in Duskwood), and didn’t end task when I closed the game. I had to manually close it.
For comparison, Classic was sitting around maybe 5% tops while idle, maybe 6~7% while running around, and usually was more like 2~3% at best when idle in the background. Obviously, Classic takes a few less resources than retail… but it was a sharp difference all the same, and Classic also didn’t stick around in my open tasks after closing out the game.
A few friends also confirmed they were having higher than usual CPU usage after the update, with some even having severe lag when zoning in to raids or BGs - lag they never had before that update.
Not sure what got changed, but it all seemed to be related to that last update.
Thankfully whatever it was seemed to have gone away, game now exits properly too
Yeah, just came here after ‘testing’ it while moving some stuff out of my bank (in case the new bank update in Ghosts goes pizdec) to say as much! CPU usage seems back to normal levels for retail for me - though, my friend was still noting a bit higher usage than they’re used to… so not sure on their end.
