High latency issues

Since Shadowlands released I have been having issues with latency slowly rising in the first ~15 minutes of logging in to between 300-400 ms, both home and world. I haven’t been having any other connection problems with my ISP. Any help or insight would be much appreciated.

Hey Corryna,

Do you happen to use any addons? If so, try resetting the UI and test the game again to see if that helps.

If you’re using a wireless connection, try swapping to wired and test it out for a play session to see if that’s any better.

Also, if you want to run a WinMTR test we can take a look to see if that shows where the latency is spiking.

  1. Download WinMTR
  2. Right-click on the downloaded .zip folder and select “Extract All”, to extract the files to a new folder.
  3. Open the new folder that was created, then open the WinMTR_x64 folder.
  4. Right-click on the WinMTR application and select “Run as administrator”.
  5. Type the IP address 137.221.105.2 in the “Host” field.
  6. Click on “Start” and then launch the game. Allow the test to run for at least 10 minutes. Click on “Stop” when you’re done playing after you have experienced the latency or connection issue.
  7. Click on “Copy Text to Clipboard”, paste the results here, then highlight everything and hit the </> button in the posting section so it will allow links.

Last night I reset my UI and that seemed to help bring my latency down to a playable level, even after manually installing bartender4. This morning upon logging in I was immediately at around 350 ms home and world. I once again went through the steps to reset the UI and removed bartender4 which seemed to help somewhat but I was still at 150 home and 175 world. Here is the WinMTR test I ran after resetting the UI again;

Having the same issue - reset the UI and no change. My connection is stellar, but my home and world latency creeps up to ~300. I’m also noticing the sound is stuttering often. I wasn’t having this issue last night, but all of the sudden today it’s unplayable for me.

It looks like the high latency is spiking right after the connection leaves your router and hits 96.120.59.21 which is a Comcast IP address. You’re seeing ~900ms spikes and some packet loss (1%) after the connection leaves your home.

I’d recommend giving Comcast a call and have them check things out and run some tests. It may be a line issue or something causing congestion in your local area that is affecting the game connection like this.
