Hello. I have been having this issue for quite a long time now. I was wondering what’s it like being a Void Elf Hunter in terms of trying to be a High Elf Ranger even through the High Elf Customization Options isn’t around for the Void Elves. Same can be said for the Void Elf Mages in terms of Archmages.
I have been debating weather or not if I should go Void Elf Mage in terms of the Archmages or the Famous High Elf Ranger for the Path of Void Elf Hunter?
Fir me personally they are not a good choice for such a thing and I cannot take it seriously if someone tries. Perhaps because I actually like them being unique from belves and helves and I feel they’ve changed to the point where their only commonality left is their history. Biological changes separate them from their breathren now so to suspend belief for them to be used as helves in RP just doesn’t work for me personally. Maybe if the lore changes to say they found a way to make new velves it would be different, but as they are now…no I dont see them as an option.
I guess this just confuses me. The Sin’Dorei are the Quel’Dori. Their eyes are a different color and that’s it. If you want a Farstrider or Magister type you can roll one up today.
I get some people dislike that the traditional High Elf racial fantasy was tied in with the Horde but that’s the deal. I very much like Dwarves. I’d have loved if the Dark Iron went to the Red Team but they didn’t so if I want that fantasy I gotta go Blue.
Now obviously I don’t pay your subscription so you’re free to do whatever you like. But that to me seems like rolling a Nightborne Hunter and just insisting it’s a Nelf Sentinel that’s with the Horde for w/e reason. You certainly could do that but it feels like such a stretch for an already available option in the game.
I don’t think that’s what he means, the blood elves were tainted by Fel and the high elves that are left are with the Alliance. That’s the story people want to create, the high elves that stood with the Alliance not the blood elves that left.
They used exclusively Fel for an expansion. The Sunwell is now described as a font of Holy and Arcane magic, hence why Belves can now have golden eyes.
I get that’s the fantasy some want but it’s been denied for creative reasons I frankly agree with. Having the regal Quel’Thalas in league with the otherwise savage Horde creates an interesting juxtaposition that diversifies the sorts of fantasy you can have on that faction.
This would also be why the more wild Kaldorei are aligned with the otherwise more traditional medieval fantasy factions of the Alliance. They’d be redundant on the Horde.
And again, do whatever you want but the Belves point blank have the magical high elf fantasy. That’s their brand. Sorcerers, rangers, and magic knights. If you want one, roll one. Velves have their own thing going on.
Technically speaking… the High Elves left and deserted their people to stay with the Alliance,. Not counting the ones who went to Outland with Turalyon’s expedition.
Like i stated, they don’t care about the sorcerers, rangers, etc… They want a character that rejected the fel and stood with the Alliance. Everything else is irrelevant. Most races can be sorcerers, rangers etc… but there’s only ONE race that rejected fel and chose to stay with the Alliance and that is High Elves.
The High Elves are still magically inclined individuals. An important distinction is that they can be mages, just typically are not warlocks because of fel magic. That being said, I don’t think it would be impossible for a High Elf to try their hand at it as well. It might even be an interesting character arc, a sort of proto-blood elf.
However I think? the original question was whether or not you could play a Void Elf and say it’s a High Elf. Entirely plausible, entirely possible. All you would need to do is to edit your race description in your TRP.
I’d just like to add a couple thoughts to this in addition to my original response. For what you described I’m not sure if you mean RPing as being an actual High Elf (though without the customization some are hoping to get) or as a former High Elf turned Ren’dorei.
My personal thought on the first is it wouldn’t work for me personally but some might say ok we’ll go with it. I get some want to be the ‘pure Quel’dorei’ fantasy and thats the closest an Alliace can get but yeah…nah.
Again if you wanted to be a former elven ranger or magister from Quel’thalas still, a Ren’dorei would still be former Sin’dorei by lore. So you could claim to have continued living there but never truly consider yourself Sin’dorei in your heart, never approved of joing the horde, etc. Some story that helps you hold being Quel’dorei in your heart prior to being changed but being an Alliance Quel’dorei without being void for me is too much of a stretch personally unless tbey surprise us all and add the customization (which for me would ruin the Ren’dorei altogether but thats a whole other story).
I actually like this particular point because it’s definitely workable. Not every Blood Elf is happy with their state of affairs as members of the Horde. While opinions may certainly have changed, it’s not out of the question to have a character who isn’t particularly fond of Orcs and Trolls and such, and looks fondly on their days as a member of the Alliance, even putting aside their treatment at the hands of Lord Garithos (and possibly any other post-Scourge warlord).
Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t Quel’Thalas most chumy with Lordaeron and Dalaran?
Because I think Dalaran poisoned the well there quite a bit first by immediately siding with Garithos over Kael’Thas- essentially picking a human commander over a respected member of their own wizarding community. And then again with the whole purge thing.
And as for Lordaeron - they’re still allied with them they’re called the Forsaken.
If the caravan quest in EPL is any indication at least some Belves got along swimmingly with Dwarves. But on the whole I can’t imagine they’d like Khaz Modan any more or less than Durotar.
Plus now the Nightborne are on the Horde, so they finally have someone to throw posh dinner parties with. A Forsaken can be a loyal friend but we just aren’t the sort to bring to fancy restaurants.
Drahliana, I don’t know if you realize this, but Blizz said something to this effect a while back. A lot of people were VERY unhappy, to put it mildly.
To counteract your statement? Elven lodges, Dalaran. There are plenty of High Elves in both locations, and most of the High Elves in the lodges are rangers or some variant thereof.
But they are not serving as either Magisters or Rangers since those are offices exclusive to Quel’thelas. You can’t be an American who’s naturalised to Mexico and still hold the title of Texas Ranger.
I mean, just the massive giggle this post is giving me is pretty great.
Why can’t you be a High Elf? There aren’t many in canon, but they still exist, and they still serve the Alliance. Obviously there is (or was) a massive cultural difference between the Quel’dorei and the Sin’dorei, but they’re still distinct subraces, with distinct allegiances. Alleria is one of them!
What you’re saying doesn’t even make sense.
But as I said, they’re different. The Sin’dorei turned to fel magic and followed Kael’thas and/or helped reclaim Silvermoon with the hopes of joining him later. The Quel’dorei remained loyal to the Alliance to some extent, in spite of Garithos. This is canon. It’s in the world, it’s in the lore.
I personally don’t want to play one myself, but if it can be logically explained- which I pointed out how it could be- there really is no issue. I would rather you say something like “I don’t enjoy the idea of people roleplaying as High Elves” as opposed to “you aren’t allowed to.” Frankly, I reject that statement wholeheartedly.
People can roleplay however they like. They do it all the time, and ironically enough, its mostly in Silvermoon on my server, last I checked. They roleplay as dragons in elf form, time travelers, what-have you. If you don’t like someone’s roleplay, you can actively choose not to engage. I think roleplaying as a dragon or noble Sin’dorei is silly and illogical, but I wouldn’t make a blanket statement like “you aren’t allowed to.”
