Randomly my cpu temps will jump up to 88-92c from 43c. Gpu will be at 45c, gpu usage 33% cpu usage 20% Ive done a clean install of both battle net and WoW, no addons. ive dropped my settings down to 720p low still happens. Even after closing the game WoW.exe will still be running in task manager once i end the task my temp drops. This only happens on WoW. I’ve played Warframe, FF14,Pal world, New world, GW2, Elden ring and ashes of creation and never had an issue. My specs are a rtx 4060 ryzen 5 7535HS 32gigs of ram 4800 and im running wow on a 2tb m.2. I’ve seen a few forum posts about this issue but none have said any solutions. I bought my laptop brand new Jan 13th 2025, and bought a Klim everest cooler for it, but my high temps only accure during WoW at random times. Sometimes i can play for hours other times its 15minutes.
Even just sitting on the character select page i’ve had it happen. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
WoW is a CPU heavy game and the load can vary wildly if you’re out in an empty zone or in a city hub with dozens of people around. Also, your laptop might do a zero-fan mode where it only kicks the fan on once the temp gets up to a certain range. So if there was a sudden heavy load for 5-10 seconds, the temp might rocket up that high before the fan kicks on.
Try capping your frame rate to something lower than your refresh rate or turn on vsync. If a CPU heavy game is trying to run at like 500fps, it’s going to heat that CPU up a lot. (WoW isn’t that CPU heavy, but it is still pretty heavy on roughly 4-6 threads worth of load)
I turned my fans to max Rpm for both my PC and my Cooler, and capped my FPS to 60, and the problem still persists. Thank you for the suggestion tho
when is the last time you dedusted your computer?
3 days ago, i took it apart cleaned the fans and heat spreaders and also repasted them in hopes for it to fix the problem but the problem still remains the same.
Yeah that’s highly abnormal and it’s completely possible that you messed something up during the repasting, but it sounds like the issue was there before you did all that.
Looking at your specs, that https://www.amd.com/en/products/processors/laptop/ryzen/7000-series/amd-ryzen-5-7535hs.html
is a roughly 50W CPU and has a tjmax of 95C. It could just be AMD doing AMD things, which wouldn’t surprise me.
Can you also verify that WoW is indeed using your RTX 4060 and not the built in AMD Radeon 660M iGPU? Within WoW, there is a setting to pick the graphics card: Pick the RTX one. iGPUs share the same die space with the CPU, so if the game is using the integrated card, it will also heat up the CPU as well. There is also a possibility that it could still potentially be doing some kind of hybrid thing as well, where it’s trying to utilize both cards at the same time.
I just checked and WoW is set to use the 4060 i also put WoW under high performance in windows so itll use the 4060 aswell. editAfter alot more testing i swapped my ram back to the 16 gigs the system came with and the problem has seemed to stop or atleast lessen. Played for 6 hours and it never spiked past 75 and it instantly dropped back to 56.
