Hiding player stats = increased participation?

One of the main reasons, I believe, many players don’t queue ranked PvP is that losing too much makes your character look bad, and I would argue that not many people enjoy that.

If you’re trying to learn something new, it’s already hard enough that you have to lose your fair share of games, but you also have to deal with your stats looking terrible for all to see. And those awful stats remain until the end of the season, and it’s rather embarrassing. So what’s the current best solution? Don’t participate.

If we want to increase player participation, we need to stop humiliating players who engage with the content unsuccessfully. My solution would be to make ranked stats private. Other players would still be able to see your rating, but they wouldn’t see how many wins and defeats it took to get there; only the player would have access to this information. This would encourage others to grind away and learn the game without feeling ashamed.

Feel free to discuss and share your opinion on the matter.

I don’t think this is accurate

nobody remembers “elise more like eloser” for longer than 4 seconds after the game ends

Also most ppl’s mogs already make them look bad

It’s not an immediate effect. Sure, you can play a game terribly, and people will forget it. But say you lost multiple games and your statistics are like 35-40% win, it’s not a good look.

And I believe many casual gamers don’t want their character profile stained with stats like that.

It reminds me of a college teacher I had who enjoyed calling out the students who failed tests by giving all the other students their grades. It was an awful feeling.

But why, unless you’re trying to ego people as a 1400 hardstuck fdk, no one worth listening to will flame for that

I think this thread is personal bias rather than absolute truth

sounds more like a community issue.

Never once claimed it to be the absolute truth. It’s only an opinion. That I think is worth investigating. Because, really, what’s the point of showing other players your win percentage?

I guess you could be able to toggle “Show stats” if you want to show off. I don’t know?

It make it easier to find similar people to play with.

If I am hardstuck at 1800 rating then I want to find other people in the same situation or better. If someone is several hundred rating lower I want to see how many games they have played.

If I am hardstuck 1800 I would be willing to play with someone that’s 1400 with 20 games but if they are 1400 with 1000 games then it means they are in a different predicament than me.

But the truth is with solo shuffle u are in control of ur own cr with nothing gatekeeping you.

You are in control of ur own destiny.

I agree with your reasoning. But, it also proves that those stats are used to discriminate. So, while you have the same rating, the stats will be used as a tool to gatekeep.

I don’t think it’s worth it.

nah. hiding stats will do more gatekeeping than now. Right now people will queue with lower cr players if they can see their games played.

Your idea is what will actually gatekeep people from finding arenas

Same as showing your ilvl in the group finder tool. People get immediately declined just because of a number beside their name.

How so? You wouldn’t queue anymore if there were no way for you to know the stats of the person you queue with?

I think it would encourage some casual PvP players to queue with another of their casual PvP friends without feeling the embarrassment of awful stats.

I believe you are mistaken

It’s certainly possible, but the opposite could also be true on some level. I know that I don’t play ranked PvP because I don’t like being reminded of how bad I am at it :stuck_out_tongue:

I doubt I’m the only one.

Well no, at level eleven you can’t. That lack of experience certainly might well invite questions about the good faith this thread was posted in, potentially

Interesting. I doubt that you aren’t. I’m sure the forum like system will show which of us doubts accurately

I highly doubt that’s an accurate representation. A good way would be for Blizzard to survey the player base and perhaps ask them if hiding stats would be something that could encourage them to participate more.

As for good faith or not, I don’t know why you would think I’m acting in bad faith.

If one could be accused of such, it would be you, as you’re not offering anything of value to this thread.

people will queue with others lower rated than them if they can check their stats.

this will make people gatekeep cr even harder lmao

Should we make it illegal for jobs to look at your resumes while considering you for a job?

Is the WoW PvP community toxic and take things like meta way too seriously? Especially at rat league MMR? Of course they do.

But players absolutely should be allowed t know who they are getting involved with and have the autonomy to remove you if they see fit.

My time is valuable. I do not want to waste it playing with someone who is clearly real bad at the game. If you’re 20-105 @ 1400 then there is a 0% chance I dont just remove you and find literally anyone else and there is nothing wrong with that.

I’d be happy to clarify, if that would be welcome.

It would disappoint me to learn that I am the only one of the two of us that considers the truth to be valuable.
