Hidden Artifact Appearance Progression

Do I have to equip the artifact with the hidden appearance to progress the other color tints or can I transmog my base weapon with the hidden appearance and still get progression?

Hidden artifact appearances really don’t require anything anymore, other than unlocking the base hidden artifact. You do not need to transmog your weapon into or equip the artifact itself while fulfilling the requirements.

For the 200 WQ’s, BFA and Legion WQ’s work. Same for the 30 dungeons.

So I don’t need to use the hidden appearance at all? Thank you for the quick response

Correct! They changed it once BFA came out.

If you get the hidden artifact appearance for BM and simply unlock it, you will begin making progress on the other color tints immediately. Regardless of transmog, having it equiped, or anything. Simply must have it unlocked and begin the WQ and dungeon grinds.

Fun fact I learned not too long ago - unlocking one hidden artifact tint unlocks the tint for all of that character’s hidden artifacts. So, my monk unlocked the Mistweaver artifact. I completed 200 WQ’s and 30 dungeons… It unlocked those new colors for all of my specc’s, not just Mistweaver. It did NOT unlock the base hidden artifact for my other specc’s, but it DID unlock the tints associated with 200 WQ’s and 30 dungeons. Hope that made sense at all lol.

It does! Thank you very much!

No problem.

PS - Maw of Souls is a 5 man dungeon from Legion that is super fast to complete. Less than 5 minutes each run. So, if you want to spam a dungeon on normal to work on your 30 dungeon progress, I’d recommend that one. Has a teleport out at the end, reset dungeon, and go again!

Have fun

If you’re trying to farm the 30 dungeons - only 10 an hour sadly.
