I was wondering when that subject would come up. They been wanting for aerial combat for a long time, but you don’t wish to go there it’s too much wing flipping and targeting to go fast at all.
Do you mean why can’t they do the new dragonriding? Because they don’t have the animations and need recoded.
Dragons fly like airplanes. Regular flight is more like flying a helicopter. So to answer your question, airplanes fly faster than helicopters.
The whole point of dragon riding being faster is it’s supposed to be a trade off. More speed, but less precision and control. Meanwhile old flight has complete control and precision, but you go slower. So they each have benefits and downsides.
Of course, leave it to the GD to want all benefits with zero downsides at all times and not understand why that’s not great game design.
the dragonriding mounts use different skeletons with custom animations for dragonriding, some old mounts have been updated with the animations (and then not implemented because ???) but others would need to have new ones made to fit.
we might see it on this new big patch or when DR is out in the old zones
Which would be better in aerial combat?
Because they’re not dragons.
Nuff’ said.
Could you be a little more clear about this?
Some, like our Netherdrakes, would fit right in. Others, like flying carpets and Orgrimmar Interceptors would look ridiculous.
Not for me, I dont mind the actual speed, its the fact that I cant do things like hover, easily change height and direction and have to worry about vigor. I wouldnt mind an option to go faster on standard flight.
It isn’t necessary to use all the aspects of gimmirck flight, just the speed. And why shouldn’'t a turbocopter be able to move at, like, turbo speed?
You will pry my 310% flying from my cold, dead ( busted) hands and no less.
As Super Mario Brothers being my OG, flying turtles are NOT acceptable.
Exactly, like I said, DF flies like an airplane, regular flying is like a helicopter.
Old mounts do fly fast, just not as fast as those newfangled mounts on steroids.
Old flying have no acceleration. You go from 0 to 100 immediately. Old flying mounts going as fast as dragonriding mounts would make them insanely twitchy and hard to control.
because the multi-million dollar company is quite lazy.
its called dragonflight but we can not use our previous mounts yet?
yep lazy alcho’s
Who is making demands? Lol
because the ppl who even wanted old flying don’t want the fast speeds is one reason. ppl say they can’t control the fast flying somehow where all blizz needed to do was have hover and normal speed fly in dr.
old fly should have been out with release with none on this pathfinder bs. but id also imagine it’ll be difficult, glitchy janky to put all mounts into dr speed.
don’t matter tho, we prolly won’t even have dr next expac and just back to old flying lol.
Thanks for the great responses. The funny and snarky funny had me smiling this morning. Liked the thoughtful ones that made sense as well.
I’m rereading Tides of Darkness and the grphyon’s use their talons for some aerial fighting, hence why the question popped into my head.
Personally, I don’t think it would work. If you gave fast flying to only gryphons or birds with actual wings there’d be complaining about not using other ones (even if it didn’t make sense). Part of me thinks it would be cool to have the option to slow the hell down when I chose, but I don’t think they’re going that direction. I can use my slower mount for that. Options are always a good thing.
Exactly why I clarified. Though I gotta say, seeing a flying carpet zoom across a waterfall and down and up again would be really cool.
The thing is because we know they are planning for the future one can’t rule aerial combat out as the next step, or part of the next step. Right now they gave us a baby step: learning to fly fast. Next? There is a next step with flying, there always is.
The game maker’s always have a plan when introducing something in one expansion - we can only hope the free flying upon starting a new expansion holds instead of, “we giveth and then take away” mentality that sometimes happens and we get some new version of of Pathfinder.
I don’t mind the option of both. If the next expansion is the other side of Azeroth this flying is definitely part of the plan.
