Hey Warlocks! Soul Shard Management Tips & Tricks?

So I hit 60 recently and getting into some world PVP situations. I’m noticing not only does it take some disengaged time to farm shards, but I am going through them pretty quick and being out of shards sometimes stops the fun in its tracks.

Do you have any tips / tricks / mods that help your soul shard management, especially regarding world PVP? I want to get a handle on this before BGs come out.

Thanks for any insight!

P.S. I’m Destruction spec in case that may sway your response.

At Raven Hill in Duskwood there are undead invis mobs that give shards at 60. You can go there and load up pretty quickly before a PvP session.

Get in the habit of casting a rank 1 Drain Soul before they go down. If you are lobbing a sb or sf at them click your ds before it goes off. Destro eats up shards like no other. Soulfire crits make it all worth it though.

  • Plan for it in advance, get the 24-slot bag, and get a second or third one if you can afford it. I have friends who actually keep a full shard bag in their bank that they fill in their off-time, and switch it out when doing content / pvp.
  • Make a decision about whether your pet is worth it. In most cases it is, but if you’re doing PvP in a group you may want to have an imp out which doesn’t eat shards, because it gives the nice group buff.
  • Put rank 1 drain soul on bars instead of highest rank - gives a shard either way, and its damage is so pitiful either way that you’re not draining for damage.
  • If you know you’re winning, you can save deathcoil for when they’re low on HP and use that 3 seconds to drain while they’re dotted.
  • If you’re PvPing with friends, make sure you have enemy hp bars active so you can switch to draining targets.

Also, have to just realize that Blizzard wasn’t great with shard foresight in Vanilla / classic - In theory the spells that use shards are supposed to be more powerful than normal, such that you are weaker than normal without them and stronger than normal with them. In practice, shards are required for you to be “on par” in most settings (excluding 1v1 where you fear spam to win) and being without them makes you weaker. But Blizzard doesn’t expect warlocks to have shards full time and you will have to accept not being able to shadowburn!
