In Classic Ret is what you roll if you basically want to be and be treated as the equivalent of the town fool of you server.
I’m just here to let all hopeful Paladins know that in Classic if you want any prestige, respect, to be desired, or quick progression at all then you should roll Holy. You can do basically do as much damage as Ret and you’re one of the better healers in the game, especially in PvP.
Just give it a shot. It’s really hard to make ret good in classic, and even when it’s ‘good’, it’s only barely viable compared to literally any other class. Just wait until BC to play Ret when it becomes OP.

Ret had it really bad in BC too especially if you weren’t Horde. Ret didn’t come into its own as a strong specc until Wrath.
I mean for crying out loud, Blizzard didn’t even put Resilience on Ret PvP gear. Talk about neglect.

Nah they’re fine.
You just had too many Paladins in vanilla who should have rolled warriors.
I was the opposite. I rolled a warrior and should have been a pally.

Roll what ever you want. I’m maining a druid myself.
In regard to hybrids, and especially the full hybrids-shaman/paladin, and druids-you play the class, not the spec.
A hybrid is a jack of all trades, while a master of nothing. And when you can do most things on the same toon you play it that way.
Maybe you are being a buff bot for the casters, then suddenly you need to off heal, or tank a mob for a minute so the mt can recover. Flexibility is where the hybrid generates high numbers, by helping the team generate high numbers.

the OP forgets the 1 shot divine storm time in BC…
that was a fun couple of weeks
LOL
Ret was garbage in TBC until 3.0 hit.

I’ll be playing female belf holy paladin if bc is released. Ret is for girls.
21 points in holy and a healing gear set is all you really need to be a great Paladin healer. Some say you don’t need Devine favor so that will give you 30 or 31 points to put in ret/prot
I played a Female BElf for the first half of BC and the animations are garbage. It renewed my Deviate Delight/Noggenfogger addiction.
Played one from Cata on. You don’t like the animations? Great news?
I will play one again.
Wow what a bunch of tools on here.
A well played Ret may not top the meters but could and were in the top 15 if played well, they also brought utility to the raid. Yes you would only have 1, but that “1” if he played it well was well regarded and very useful in raids.

I tried to be that one ret you were talking about back then. I got Bis, I did my stuff. Myself and everyone like me were laughed at and passed up for lower geared rogues, warriors, and pages. Then I became Holy and cleared all the way through ZG
I bet you see more Ret in raids this time around because of increased player skill and knowledge.
Raid teams will have a wider margin of error than in Vanilla.
Cutting edge guilds will still exclude them, but that’s ok. Just find a guild that’s open minded and casual.
In a similar vein regarding hybrids, loved loved my druid tank in TBC. Not sure if I’ll level a druid in Classic (unless it’s for a TBC expansion).
Yeah. Yeah just wait two years. You can wait that long, right? (There won’t even be any BC servers)

I think people are playing about with some thing called a Spelladin hybrid. Not the same as a Shockadin in BC. But looks quite interesting.
I remember wrecking people in pvp with my ret as long as they weren’t one of the direct counter classes, and I enjoy the utility it affords me. I’m good with my choice, but thanks for the concern OP.
