Hey DPS that likes to pull in dungeons.... roll a tank

If u like pulling so much, roll a tank.

So many times I ask DPS NOT to pull, yet they love to pull. This heavily affects so many things such as;

  • threat
  • mobs running around the place and targeting different players
  • team drinking
  • team not ready
  • chain pulls with team not having mana

Not only the tank will have a hard time gaining threat (if they are not ready with the mobs) but it affects the healers too.

Just annoys the heck out of me, if you want to pull, roll a tank.

This is, literally, the first time I have ever heard anyone with this particular complain. And by gawd someone should do something about it!

Bro, at your level (even if it’s not updated) you should be able to run with guild 100% of the time. PUGS are a crapshot.

Depends on context. If the tank is just pulling too slow and the dps or healer doing the extra pulling can handle it, I do find it to be the tank not being able to read the room. Other times, it is the dps or healer being stupid. I have seen both scenarios plenty often.

I prefer for there to be a conversation about it before the non tank pulls, but the tank is not always right either.

I agree mainly because of the mechanic involved with threat and how initial threat dictates a fight most of the time. Ever since starting classic I’ve realized threat is a very real thing and not to be ignored like so many do in retail since it’s so readily available that you barely notice it’s a mechanic. Usually I will give my tank 2-3 seconds before I really start egging it on because once control is established ripping threat from a good tank is hard to do. Eventually as DPS you learn not cucking your tank makes the runs so much less painful and as a warrior player as well I’ve experienced the cuckage too so hopefully the majority see the light as I have too.

easy fix…

as tank, you should be making the groups…

then when a dps starts doing stupid things…

you can say… warning, if you pull again I will not pull it off of you, and you will be kicked from group. follow directions or leave…

problem solved… you gave a warning before you kicked them…no one can blame you for the situation.

But what if the tank is the stupid one?

I always stand next to the tank and wait for his start, I watch the group also to ensure any adds, or low hp, mana are counted for .

also an easy fix…

first you offer a tip on what they are doing wrong… just in case they are the rare person who knows that they are new and need help…

then if they come back with snarky comments or are unwilling to listen… you leave group and either find another or go quest… because the run will not be worth your time

Given the tank shortage and how difficult getting groups as DPS can be, you are talking about potentially hours long waits. The tank making the group, being wrong, but not having to learn anything, and being able to continue being wrong, while it is the other party members stuck with either a crappy, wrongheaded tank or a long wait…what is an actual good solution?

If you don’t like it, then just leave and find another group.

Players here constantly talk about how tanks are in short supply and will get paid to run dungeons. You may as well just leave and find another one.

See above.

I think you should just pull faster.

Ive yet to see a dungeon above deadmines where dps consistently pulled before the tank, unless the group considerably outlevels the dungeon.

Of all the tanks, the warrior benefits the most from fast pulling. If you have DPS, and even worse your healer, pulling, you probably are going slower than the group expects you to pull.

No way, still plenty of suckers playing tanks.

DPS4LIFE.

Roll a tank amd then the tank will play exactly like you want.

sometimes the tank would be served well by letting a pull class pull in some situations, ive seen to many tanks make bonehead pulls and wipe the party. There is no shame in asking a hunter to pull some groups that are tricky, its actually smart, we can save that wipe.

They pull it they tank it… period. I have literally moved on to the next mob as the dps that pulled it is dying… I don’t even bother looking at them… once they die ill taunt it off the healer… but ya… I do not even bother if they pull something.

Most of the time Ive seen DPS pull is to get the tank to keep pace.

And usually thats because hes gone mentally AFK.

You gotta keep a good pace, and you have to know the dungeon and the fights, and be a good leader, and be appropriately geared, and also appropriately levelled.

Tough burden being a tank.

agreed, on my druid I wouldn’t save them, and it pm the healer and tell them not to heal them either. they die a few times and they either fall inline or leave, no biggie either way
