Hex Macro

Hey guys

I use a hex macro and I can't find a way to put different versions of hex into it.

I have hex cockroach, compy and now wicker mongrel

but when I put /cast hex in a macro it only ever works as frog.

any suggestions?
You should have a Hex spell and a Hex pull down option in your spell book if I recall correctly. The Hex spell will always be a frog. The pull down however will open a "menu" of all your available options, you can either pull one of them down to your toolbar or you should be able to shift+click it while your macro window is open in order to get the correct spelling to use that variant. Hovering over the icon should also work.
The variants do not have their own unique spelling unless there is a hidden one
Have you tried shift clicking the Hex variants in the spell book?

really weird, I clicked them last night and it didn't fix them, but this morning it has changed it

this is my hex macro

/focus [noexists] none; [@focus, noexists][@focus, dead] target
/cast [mod:shift, @focus][] Hex
/cast [mod:cntrl, @focus][]

so this morning its using the kul tiran hex
(there is no difference in the text from clicking the variants from spellbook)
so I don't get how it changed
it's stuck on the kul tiran hex now and I can't change it...

so confused
I have been wondering this myself. Mages have the variant in parentheses. Simple. Why can’t this be done for shamans?
and now it has reverted to the frog, for some reason

If you use Bartender, you could set up an extra bar (hidden of visible) that contains all the variants, and have your macro use the /click command to activate the buttons.
Example: /click BT4Button33 would activate the top right button in my 3-line button bar setup.

thanks, I don’t currently use bartender

at this stage, my question hasn’t been resolved, and my macro now alternates Hexes between Frog and Wicker Pup
it’s very confusing :stuck_out_tongue:

Mages are able to use different variants because the name of the Poly is changed with (X) added to it. Why they have not done this for shamans I have no idea.

There was this post on the old EU forums by a dwarf named Barryz, didn’t try it myself, but hope it helps:

Hey ladies,

I just got myself a Tome of Hex: Skeletal Hatchling and wanted to put it into my macros and found, probably like many of you, that you can’t macro hex variants.
Sadly I couldn’t find a fix for this on any forums.
Having over 9000 iq points I figured out a decent fix for it.

All you have to do is drag the spell from your spellbook, under Hex Variants, onto your bars. Find the name of the button and make a macro like this:
#showtooltip hex
/target focus (or arena1/2/3 or mouseover)
/click MultiBarBottomRightButton2
/targetlasttarget

The name of the button can be found with this macro by pressing it while having your cursor on your Hex: Skeletal Hatchling button:
/run print(GetMouseFocus():GetName())

I hope this helps you ladies with turning people into a variety of wild animals.

GENIUS!
/chars

Incase people are still trying to figure this out but haven’t, you put the hex variant in (parathesis). ie:
/cast [@mouseover, exists][] Hex(Skeletal Hatchling)
