Heroic open world is a huge win Blizzard

I’m absolutely loving it. The increased mob difficulty, some mobs calling in reinforcements, knowing I can die if I’m not paying attention and pull too many mobs. Have I already said I love it?

I don’t feel like I’m just mowing down NPC’s and pressing W. It’s actually engaging, and makes my open world time so much more enjoyable. So glad you guys are trying this.

I like the affixes the different mobs can have. I like being able to practice my rotation and utility in actual combat. I hope this mode is introduced as an option for all old content.

i havent tried it but it sounds like a good thing

especially if retail incorporates this into leveling and open world as it would introduce mechanics that would be seen in the dungeons and raids

then players might not feel like these gameplay elements are not so foreign in the other game pillars

removing difficulty/gameplay mechanics in open world content never made much sense

glad players are enjoying this

I get the feeling this feature wouldn’t work with a game that strangles player power as much as it does in the actual game.

This difficulty is only beatable as your stats are jacked, without that jack you’d be getting slaughtered.

I’m of two minds of it. I think it’s really healthy to have an engaging open world, properly difficult if you’re traveling alone. Strength in numbers, after all! Use all your CC tools and your kit to survive against a very dangerous world.

I feel scaling can be worked on: It was a lot easier on my level 25 than it is on my 76. Some regular mobs are as tough as the rares except there’s certainly more of them. There were encounters where I blew every CD I had and lost to a singular mob that would be trivial otherwise.

It’s neat, and I feel if it got a tune up it should be tossed into retail, going forward.

That appears to be by design. No matter where you are playing, you power down somewhat as you level, especially 70-80, then have to slowly rebuild your gear/artifact into the endgame climb.

I don’t plan on trying heroic world stuff until I can solo dungeons, which will likely be a while yet.

Yeah it’s by design, but getting weaker as you LEVEL UP is BAD design.

It’s the way the game has always worked in practice, it’s just that we used to have an illusion of increasing power as we outleveled each zone and then moved on to a more aggressively scaled zone as we moved through the world. (As opposed to watching all zones of an expansion scale with us no matter where we go in them)

(But if that illusion was important to you, so be it - I too enjoy outgearing/outleveling stuff eventually)

I’m hoping the heroic world tier option comes to retail. Just make sure it stays rewarding if its ported over.

Good start but it’s not as “heroic” as I’d like it to be

And this is the kicker, some classes are kitted out more than others in terms of CC and interrupts.

To make this “heroic open world” difficulty work all classes need to feel good to play in the environment, that’s why we have a companion in Delve to help offset our weakness. I couldn’t imagine Holy Priest without the amped up stats being fun to play, its rotation is dull and no kick. Rogue would also most likely get thrashed because of how meme tier their defensives are and poor sustainment.

add things like this to retail please. Even though I engage in end game content I’ve come to find leveling as one of the more enjoyable experiences, would love more engagement with it.

I would enjoy a mythic open world too–
But I also want more rewards for the higher risk.
While Heroic is fun, it’s not nearly dangerous enough for my personal preference.

Exactly this.

I’m enjoying heroic mode for the challenge but I’ll drop back to normal tier when I want to just get those quests done. Sometimes I run into a mob out there that does the reinforcements… endlessly. When that happens even my druid tank can’t handle it. Skill issue, no doubt, but I like the challenge.

Yeah, I’m enjoying the heck out of Hero mode in Remix. It’s keeping me on my toes.

I would love for that to be the base difficulty in the open world on retail.

It feels like diablo 3.

I think with the affixes and buffing in order to keep lore in line they need to confine it to particular zones / named mobs to make it work.

Like if you’re in the barrens killing zebra and one of them gives the rest life leech and thorns… thats kind of weird. But if you’re in the void zone next expansion? Or if you’re in a troll camp and the war drummer increases attack speed of nearby allies… thats kind of cool.

General scaling is nice, some stuff was bugged (I think) like the crab in helyas realm are scaled to be like normal mobs, so if you accidently aoe you get swarmed.

I’d like to see one zone designed with it in mind, before it were ever implemented over all zones, like if only hallowfall had a heroic mode and it was the “dark phase”… they could toy around with how to make mechanics punishing but bearable while also keeping it lore abiding.

I love it too… It’s a thing I’ve wanted for years now, and I’ll say for a first attempt it is great. It needs development, of course, and there are definitely fluctuations in when it’s too much and when it’s too little.

This actually has me fairly excited to try out the Prey system in Midnight. I was tamping down my optimism of the preview.
