Heroic Item Level Requirements

I noticed something odd with the start of the mythic+ season.

Prior to the start of the season normal dungeons dropped 554 gear while heroic dungeons had an item level requirement of 551. After the start of the season the item level required for heroics has increased to 567. But the normal dungeons still drop 554 gear.

So now gear from normal dungeons is not good enough to start heroic dungeons.

Does anyone know if this is intended or an oversight by Blizzard?

In previous expansions you did a progression of normal dungeons to heroic dungeons to mythic 0 then up the keystone levels for mythic+. Now the first rung of the ladder is missing and it seems like very weird design.

gear from normal dungeons “is” good enough to start heroics. just upgrade it to 4/8.

finally someone with a sensible answer

Didn’t have to do that yesterday. Why is it suddenly required now?

my raiding sham literally started the day off fully upgraded greens, now sitting in a bunch of champion gear from delves/raid and vet pieces that I picked up in mythics.

I never set foot in heroic on that guy, didn’t see a need to. why sweat it out for gear you’re gonna replace like tomorrow?

because heroics are a bit harder now

Then why not shift normal up slightly to match instead of adding an awkward gap in the gear levels?

It’s just another time metric Blizzard added by creating this new problem. They don’t want people to be able to get geared only through normal dungeons now and heroics.

The thing is, you could do just that, yesterday. If you did your dungeons yesterday you could have got your 554 gear from normal dungeons then onto heroic dungeons and would have 571 gear which would allow you into the 567 gear requirement heroic dungeons today.

Why suddenly make it more awkward now?

Not enough people doing their new “cool” delve content it seems. No good reasoning behind it. It’s always been do normal dungeons for gear > then have enough ilvl to get geared in heroics. Blizzard just changed that way of progression today. It’s a dumb move.

I noticed this too

this feels shady because normal dungeon drops ilvl did NOT go up

The gear progression track has always been until today:

Normal Dungeons → Heroic Dungeons → Mythic 0 → Mythic+

Bad call for Blizzard to change this.

seems find to me… but then I am around 584 on the ret pally and 585 on the guardian druid.

Ironic, isn’t that the point of mythics and, to a large extent, most of the entire game?

The gear I got from normal dungeons wasn’t upgradable.

Yea it’s frustrating. Heroic dungeons should have an entry level just under the ilevel of normal dungeon gear drops. It’s current state does make people have to find alternative methods to gearing up which forces them to do other content though. Both options to gear for heroics should be viable with farming normal dungeons being more time consuming and/or providing gear that barely gears for heroics.

Heroics got a slight nudge, and instead of dropping 571 they now drop 580. Increased reward, increased barrier of entry. Upgrading N gear to 564 only costs valorstones. Probably need a couple at 567 to meet the threshold. Conversely, you only need 567 average in your bags, not equipped.

On alts I really wanted to toil around upgrading normal gear with valorstones and doing delves in order to queue for heroic so that I can maybe someday do some M+. Blizzard really gets me.

Is this new? I can’t upgrade any of the gear I got from normal on my alts. It’s all 554 and only 554.
