And… this is the problem right here. You had more options right off the bat, yet you all decided to pile up on one realm, thus creating a far more difficult and unstable scenario than any streamer or brazilian player could’ve possibly caused.
They could have limited account creation per server to the maximum capacity, looks like layering didn’t do anything to combat login ques. Which so many touted as a reason to love layering.
If it makes anyone feel better (it won’t), I reserved my name on Herod with no intention of playing. So that’s one overcount on Herod plus the hundreds or possibly thousands of players who will not play on Herod once they know I’m not going to be there.
We had no options right off the bat. It was either contend with a language barrier (I did in vanilla, we’re originally from Azshara where there was a sizable Francophone population) or deal with the toxicity that comes with the cult of personalities that streamers bring.
There were three options, and two of them immediately threw up red flags.
If Stalagg was an option from the get-go Herod wouldn’t have gotten dogpiled.
That’s not even to speak of the people who made the decision independent of where the streamers or LA players were going to be. Our original decision for rolling on Herod long before the streamers declared their server was the fact that it was the most memorable boss from Scarlet Monastery. It honestly would have had this population regardless because it’s far and away the coolest name of the EST PVP servers according to most people. I contended that Faerlina was the coolest one because she was the most powerful boss, being in Naxx, but I got overruled by majority vote.
Herod was always going to be the most popular server for its name alone. If they had released more EST PVP servers there would have been more of a balance, but Stalagg is too little, too late, especially if we’re all going to get shafted on our names.
The language barrier on Thalnos will probably be close to non-existent considering many projections over the number of the non-US player base suggested an average of 5% of the realm’s population. Furthermore, it’s very likely that a large part of that 5% is able to sustain basic english communication. So really the whole language barrier thing has no basis at all. This is not 2004.
Regarding Faerlina, the big negative wasn’t really about fans being toxic but rather how streamers would affect the stability of the realm by congregating tons of players together. Funny enough, Herod will end up being even more unstable due to the huge number of players on it.
Regardless, I don’t doubt there are people out there who chose Herod independently of the reasons above, but definitely not the majority. These last couple of weeks there was a huge hate trend on Faerlina and Thalnos and it just got into people’s head that they were the worst thing ever. And looking for the solution for a problem that was never there, they caused an even bigger one by piling up on the same realm.
Of course Blizzard will eventually release one more EST PvP server at the very least, but it’s really a shame that so many people are going to ruin their first month of Classic for nothing. Hours of Q for weeks after such a long wait won’t be pretty.
Even without the population issue etc that server is destined to be a complete mess community wise, all the anti-streamers who live in fantasy land about how the game was are going to be on the server mixing with the private server elites and whatever else creating a bad time. And that’s before you throw in all the spergs that will be running around that these people seem to think didn’t exist back then.
I would suggest people think about Stalagg if they are on the fence about where to go, I think its going to be the best experience since everyone who has been planning every detail for months has committed to Herod/other servers.
If not Stalagg at least consider Faerlina or one of the others, its not going to be as bad as some on here would make you believe. I think people would be pleasantly surprised if they gave it a shot.
Unless you absolutely have to stay dedicated to a single server on multiple characters, you could roll on another server if you didnt mind leveling an alt without the support of a main.
“We never anticipated for such a great turn out!, All realms are currently experiencing ques, we are doing our best to remedy the situation, please consider transfering to a low pop server on us!”
then later;
“We know we promised to remove layering by phase 2, however due to an unanticipated retention rate, layering will remain until phase 3”
Non-Streamer server, not the South American server, only other pvp eastern server.
For most it was the ONLY acceptable option. Blizz needed 2 more eastern pvp servers (with non awful names) and 1 server would still be full but no where near the issue we have now.
