With the most recent changes this expansion to the Mythic track gear receiving 6 tiers of upgrades, hero track gear feels extremely minimal and also is positioned in a weird upgrade spot compared to the 2 other tracks that sandwich it.
As it stands now, if we take a look at the differences between Champion, Hero, and Mythic track gear as far as upgrades go, we see a jump of 4 tiers, 2 tiers, and 4 tiers (4-2-4) respective to their lesser counterpart. This has a few ramification. For one, it creates a less tapered situation as far as upgrades go. Instead of gearing up and slowing down as you hit the pinnacle, the slowing down instead happens halfway through the gearing process before accelerating once again as a player starts earning Mythic track gear. This is poor design and a change made to what was otherwise a pretty great gearing system.
To bring back a bit of proper tapering, I propose that Hero track gear received an additional tier of upgrades. This changes the 4-2-4 system I noted above to 4-3-3 instead, which creates a more tapered and better designed system where we see a slow down of gearing happen more gradually as the player pushes towards the pinnacle.
Going forward, I also urge Blizzard to view gearing as more a fun journey, than look at it as pinnacle rewards that will create greater gaps in player power and thus an increase in player gatekeeping. The Mythic track increase seemed hastily and poorly implemented, without much thought put into the overall spectrum of gearing we have now and how it would affect the value of hero track gear notably.
